According to a press release today, UsedAirplanes.com has completed the purchase of Flying.com for $1.1 Million:
“””UsedAirplanes, Inc., the parent company of UsedAirplanes.com, announced today that they have completed the purchase of the domain name Flying.com for $1.1 million.
The first (beta) version of Flying.com will be launched on June 1, 2010 to display all of the used airplanes and aircraft from the company’s flagship website UsedAirplanes.com.
The company will spend the remainder of 2010 developing Flying.com into a digital media, aviation-community based website with a strong focus on social media. In addition, Flying.com will be the first website developed from the ground up with Apple’s new iPad format in mind throughout the development.”

TechCrunch also has a story on the sale here
Fly.com sold for $1.7 Million and Jets.com sold for $375K.
Flying.com was actually sold on 2009 by NameMedia but the price was not disclosed.
Good time to be in the “air” in the domain industry with the Pilot.com and Flying.com sales.
It stated on the top of the PR the $1.1M but near the bottom stated “The domain name was sold in September of 2009 for an undisclosed amount however the sales price on the day of the sale was $845,000.”
I am thinking they are including “interest” to raise it from the $845K the domain sold for to the $1.1M?
Did the sale just finish up from 2009? Or was it sold again?

@Flying.tv
According to DNN.com, the domain sold in 2009 and now again in 2010. It would appear the $845K was paid by a group of investors in Sept 2009 and UsedAirplanes.com has been trying to purchase it since around the time it sold in 2009.
The $1.1M appears to be what UsedAirplanes.com paid for it now.
What does “iPad” format in mind mean? Widget-ized with a lot fancy ROR, drag & drop features, etc. ?
Thanks Jamie!
