According to a press release today a company in the UK, limobroker.co.uk said they recently purchased the domain name, WeddingCarHire.co.uk for six figures.
“Although we paid a hefty six-figure sum for the domain name, we felt the market was worthy of such a substantial investment” Tej Randeva, Managing Director is quoted as saying.
However the domain was first registered in November 2009, and if in fact it was bought for six figures that would be the second recent domain registration to be resold in the six figures this week.
CamRoulette.com was sold for $151K a couple of days ago after being registered in November 2009.
Troy says
I bet they really did not pay anywhere near that price and are just claiming they did for publicity.
Perhaps I am wrong… but I doubt it.
MHB says
Troy
I agree with you but I’m amazed that people don’t seem concerned with the tax consequences of overstating what you spend or make in the press.
Troy says
Yeah,
I sure would be mad to be the seller and be charged with tax evasion for not paying taxes on 100,000 plus in income that was never real.
limobroker.co.uk says
Thanks for the free ad.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com says
“WeddingCarHire.co.uk for six figures.”
very good news for my (500,000,000 to 2,000,000,000 potential market users) domains on sale… 🙂

Ben says
Although the domain is showing as registered in 2009 it was actually drop caught. The domain was probably originally registred 1999/2001.
Ben says
Was sold for £800 a few days after it was caught: http://domainlore.co.uk/auctions/id/403

“the 8th one to call it as bogus”
theorically… EVERY domain name could be sold at a VERY HIGH price but WITHOUT lose money… just IF the buyer and seller are friends… 🙂

LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com says
good for you Tej 🙂
CellFunda.com says
Lim(.)broker, seems like you are caught 🙂

come on tej, we dont mind you confessing….
Paul says
As a Brit I find this plausible:
– “wedding car hire” is THE phrase in the UK
– the reported price is in the same ballpark as 1 wedding car
– it is connected to the wedding industry!

“I find this plausible”
ok, so he can say us the true price… 🙂

So I’m going to ask you the same thing as responded to the first comment with.
Here in the States we have a little group known as the IRS including watching, listening and reading all things public including PR, and if they see someone chatting about spending a lot or making a lot of money they tend to watch out how that playout on their tax return.
There is another group here called the FTC, Federal Trade Commission which looks out for false information sent to the public.
You guys over in the UK have no such concerns?
Mr. Deleted .com says
Maybe I need to sell myself a few of my domains for 6 figures.
Ben says
“the reported price is in the same ballpark as 1 wedding car”
> “I doubt that a wedding car costs millions”
Just so you know, 6 figures is thousands, not millions.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. says
“in the UK have no such concerns?”
since London is the most important financial market of the world I think they surely have controls like those made by FTC
.
Mr. Deleted .com says
im pretty sure that limobroker is not who he says. he comes across as sarcastic.
Paul says
In my mind 6 figures would be 100,000 – 999,999 currency units.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. says
“Just so you know, 6 figures is thousands, not millions.”
e.g. £ 999,999 is £1 close to an £ million or 1,489,998.52 USD at today’s change
.
MHB says
LCD
Just to play along when someone is talking about buying something in their own currency I don’t think they would convert it into dollars, that is to say if a guy in the UK says he spent six figures that would be six figures in his own currency, not converted to US or EU or anything else
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. says
however… just for curiosity… since Mr. Tej don’t say it us… who knows the real price of the domain?

Jason says
These companies are overpaying for these domains. These names are getting picked up because they target a specific field. The camroulette.com sounds similar to that new social networking site the Russian whiz created.
It probably can be uses for online gambling. The problem is that domainers such as us have good domains that businesses would like, but most domain companies don’t have good marketing unless you appraise and spend additional money to market it.
The people who over paid for domains can afford to spend the money, and drive up the market. No way this domain is worthy of six figures. The name doesn’t even sound appealing.
I know for sure I have many domains that I can sell because I target specific jobs and services. Someone just got lucky selling the wedding domain which the companies claims is worth the
price. That domain is only worth the value to
them. Most people wouldn’t need this domain. A few months ago hdmicables.com sold for $12k. Estibot valued it at $280k. The market is determined by these unreliable appraisals and people who over pay for them.
I figured out that the hdmi domain was purchased by another company who sells those particular cables. If you put in the address, you are re-routed to their business which has another name. Us little people never receive a fair chance to enter auctions, but others with less appealing stuff are approved.
If you want to make a sale, you need to put in the work to attract prospective buyers. Pay attention to the market. Know what people want. Further, this domain is not worthy of six figures. It’s only value is to help the limo company in the UK.
Jason says
The domain name has no value to any of us. Maybe it has some residual value from being around for a decade. Otherwise, only certain people receive a fair opportunity to make a sale.
These domains may have generateD some value over the years, and then some lucky person was luck enough to find them on a drop. Each of you can do the same, but how will you move them into an auction? Many domain companies pick up junk to add into their
auctions. Half of the domains never receive even one bid.
Excuse some of my errors in the last post. I’m using an IPhone to type these posts. Instead of us being awestruck by these six figure deals, we need to go after some of these domains sitting around at companies.
Attach an idea to your domains. Do what that kne kid did with the Jenny phone number on EBay. Companies are always looking for ways to increase business. This wedding domains is not worth anything to any domainers unless they have a limo service for weddings.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com ETC. says
.
the rumored price is high but at least its website really exists
how many high-priced domains are really used for websites?
.
Joan the Wedding Girl says
It’s possible they paid a lot for it, they can certainly afford it. It would be worth it if they do it right, coming top for ‘wedding car hire’ in Google could earn you a fortune. Oh, and purleeese – you can’t get real-life sensible figures/info from estibot and wiki-answers.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com ETC. says
“coming top for ‘wedding car hire’ in Google could earn you a fortune”
yes, but only if you sell your services in several countries
unfortunately, a wedding car can’t be downloaded from the UK site
.
Mr. Deleted .com says
I don’t think anyone outside of the UK uses that term. But maybe it is good for a UK company to have that domain. Good luck to them if they paid xxx,xxx for it, in recovering that cash.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com ETC. says
“Good luck to them if they paid xxx,xxx for it, in recovering that cash.”
of course, it very much depends if the xxx,xxx price is closer to 100,000 rather than 999,999 🙂
however, despite the new owner of the domain reads this blog, he still hasn’t revealed us the real price
.
Mr. Deleted .com says
“despite the new owner of the domain reads this blog”
Maybe he does, but I think the person posting as him is not actually him. The poster here seems to sarcastic to be running this business.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com ETC. says
“the person posting as him is not actually him”
yes, I’ve had the same doubts reading the posts
.
Paul says
There are at least 572 businesses in this space in the UK according to Google.
If the sale price was low 6 figures I am thinking it was a bargain.
199.com Reserve Met Auction says
“If the sale price was low 6 figures I am thinking it was a bargain.”
Paul you’re a lone ranger nut unless you’re counting the cents figures.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com ETC. says
“If the sale price was low 6 figures I am thinking it was a bargain.”
no, because, with few companies that share the same business, each one can make a good revenue no matter the domain name it uses and also if it hasn’t a website, so, ended these few days of clamor, due to the high priced domain buy (if happened) the xxx,xxx amount paid will be only a pure cost without any other advantage, then, they just lost money
it’s the same reason why I don’t believe that sex.com will be sold at an high price… a porn site doesn’t need to spend (nor can spend) $10-20M to buy a domain because, that money, will NEVER come back in the site owner pocket!
.
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com ETC. says
however, surely, they’ve produced lots of discussions on the web… 🙂
LCDwallpapers.com and LCDscreensavers.com ETC. says
I’ve made a serch on the web but no one site has news about about the price… I feel it will remain a mystery like happened with the office.com sale…

Paris Hilton. She could do a blog entry every time she has an orgasm.

I don’t think this domain is worth 6 figures! Is wedding car hire a popular search phrase? Not popular enough to be worh xxx xxx – Also, was it sold in $’s or £’s ??
Either way this company won’t see their returns for a LONG time.

Joan Wedding Girl says
I don’t know why people keep saying they won’t get their money back? How much do you think it costs to hire a limo or classic car for a wedding? How much money do you think you would make on wedding car hire if you could pull in all the big wedding deals, where they might have 5 or 6 cars or more?
It’s not an Adsense site or selling rubber ducks, they don’t need to shift millions of them to make their money.
asian wedding magazine says
I totally agree with that. After looking at the site, and its google ranking, I wouldn’t be suprised if they make their money back in a few months.
Wedding car hire is a good business if you do it right, these guys are doing it on a national scale so I think they’ll be ok. Plus its a good domain name to have.
I just looked into this company and it looks like they own http://www.limobroker.co.uk and http://www.coachbroker.co.uk too. Looks like they know what thwy’re doing.

thats a good investment for a wedding car hire site.

Not sure what this company paid for this domain name but I agree with ‘Joan Wedding Girl’ that it won’t take them long to get their money back, especially if they seo and promote the site properly.

they only paid £10, 000.

Their seo seems to be pretty good. £10,000 is a bargain (if that’s true).

I know about this transaction as I also wanted to buy this domain. It was purchased on domainlore by DomCollect who’s based somewhere outside of UK, then it was sold to the current buyer for a very large sum. I wasn’t told the exact figure. I’ve since seen their website and it’s doing amazing on the search engines. I reckon they’ve made their money back thousands time over.
