Root Orange, today announced the official launch of its domain-splitting technology service with what they call, “the number one legal domain name in the world” Attorney.com.
“”Root Orange is the first and only company that allows multiple people or businesses to exclusively operate the same domain name in different geographic markets””
“We’re excited to launch our game-changing technology so small businesses can finally stand out from the crowded online marketplace and boost the return on their always limited marketing dollars,” said co-founder Camilo Acosta.
“Attorney” generates over 1.8 million monthly exact searches in the United States alone.
“”Law firms and individual attorneys, in any metropolitan area, can get exclusive localized traffic to and marketing power of the www.attorney.com domain, seizing an immediate and enormous competitive advantage in their regional marketplace.””
Sounds pretty exciting.
Clicking on some of the categories on attorney.com I am getting results in many cases for South Florida attorneys. This should work well for advertisers and publishers.

Finally some real news that has the potential of unleashing the power of good generic domains. You can take this idea and apply it to many models & levels.

I think they are going to have trouble finding the scale of advertisers needed to make this work. I can see where traditional domain leasing fits in but this is taking it to a micro level. If is hard enough just get one company to lease a name let along a company per city.

I think it can work really well, but their pricing is way too high. For divorceattorney.com they are charging $2,000/month for each city, so for attorney.com the price will be much higher I would imagine. I can totally see attorney.com work at between $200-$2,000/month depending on city size.

Hey guys, this is Frank with Root Orange.
Michael, thanks for the blog post!
Snoopy, you have definitely hit on the #1 challenge and #1 focus for us. Fortunately we’re finding effective ways to reach small businesses that are primed for our solution.
Jon, you’re exactly right about pricing. The DivorceAttorney.com pricing you saw was a random test and not symptomatic of our typical pricing. Attorney.com will actually be priced not too far off from what you mentioned.
Thanks for the comments, and if you have any questions, you may reach me at domains@rootorange.com.

I think the idea has something to it, but I have also my doubts. A company / law firm is trying to brand their name. Now they use the domain and advertise it in Chicago. After 6 month, they let go and traffic goes to the next customer in line. The traffic from the domain might be worth the $2000 a month for a lawfirm, but the domain name does not bring any value to them.

How is that any different than the law firm spending $2K a month on Google buying keyword advertising?

I really like this idea. There is another company building out geo domains into directories but I think the struggle there is the amount of type in on a geo domain is kinda small so it would be hard to retain a company paying directory fees per month with such small visitors unless they use part of the revenue generated to buy additional advertising. I like this idea better as a plain domain like lawyer, attorney etc… would have so much more type in that I think an advertiser would definitely keep renewing their monthly fee if it is reasonable based on new customer acquisitions/leads.

Attorneys don’t have a clue when it comes to the internet. I hate to say it, because I AM one, but even if you give them FREE listings, they don’t take advantage of the opportunity. I have MalpracticeAttorneys.com and it is STILL a struggle to get attorneys to understand the traffic that is generated.

“Most of these domains suck unless you are and enduser with a viable biz idea. These prices are 150 years Rev.
thank god their are still alot of suckers out there. Keyholders.com was listed on Sedo during the auction with a bin of $999. LOL
Some of these domains aren’t worth reg fee eg. visitbolivia gets maybe 1 type-in a week.”
