According to Autonews.com, GMC says it could drop TV commercials altogether in favor of Viral marketing.
The article quotes Steve Rosenblum, Buick-GMC’s director of advertising and promotions, as says GMC needs new types of advertising for young shoppers saying it would target a new audience, people 35 or younger which may mean no TV commercials.
“”Instead, Rosenblum’s team has developed a brochure with bar-code-type designs called quick response codes that smart phones can read. Phones scan the codes and point consumers to Web pages that give details on the Granite’s features, offer opportunities for social networking and discuss designers’ inspirations for the concept.””
GMC is pursuing smart phone marketing, he says, because studies show that by 2011, two-thirds of cell phone sales to people under 40 will be smart phones.

Well GM will need sales from some one being many of us over 35 have been hosed with poor quality products from them for years. They did not stand behind the failed intake gaskets, rack and pinion blow by through wear on the shaft at the seals, multiple a/c compressor failures, window regulator failures, transmission failures and multiple recalls on everything they put out! Top that off with arrogant dealerships who forget who you are after spending a ton on a unit that needs follow up for about 50,000 to 75,000 miles and is only covered for 36,000. I have had motor mounts that needed to be recalled for compressing causing the drive train to come into steering component areas and compromise safety. Same car had 7 exhaust manifold gaskets fail before they could figure out a way to make one last. Same ride they would not warranty a timing gear on the cam (made out of plastic) 3,000 miles out of 36K warranty. Dumped this car at 44,000 miles as it was already rusting through the bottom of the doors. It had multiple recalls I think it was 8 and the seven exhaust gaskets, typical G M quality! The only way and I say only way I would ever touch another GM product would be if it had a bumper to bumper warranty good to at least 100,000 miles. Drove Chevy cars for 30 plus years (last 25 sucked slow learner?) and you would have a hard time giving me one now! I only listed some of the issues I had with their products would need half a day to go through the whole list!! Bought another manufactures product with much, much better quality, reliability and they stand strong behind what they sell. No slow walk B S like GM…. I have better things to do then buy a G M car and spend all my spare time and money keeping it running. I drove better Chevy beaters for 50 bucks in high school with less problems then the stuff they have been selling since 1985…. You under 35 folks they tell you they have a 100K drive train warranty, when is the last time you dropped a piston. Does the warranty cover all gasket and electronics IE crank sensors, ignition modules etc?? Have they come up with better window regulators?? Will the aluminum rims corrode from poor quality materials and the tires keep loosing air?? Dealer wants 500 to 600 to replace window regulator, can get them new at junk yard/internet for $99.00 and do yourself (shouldn’t need to) at 44K and at 51K. O.E.M part from Korea and after market part from Taiwan. G M American made huh?? Junk yards love G M it makes for a large portion of their business. Buyer beware, if you purchase one bend over all the way and get the warranty you will need it. Two people I know needed it first guy needed new motor and transmission in one of their trucks. My brother in-law had the transmission fixed twice in his suburban. G M burned me multiple times and never blinked, acted like what is the big deal pal 500 here 800 there oh and now the last G M car I gave my daughter (which still needs regular repairs) needs a seat belt module just another 100 plus to read the code (I already did read it they don’t care) and another 700 or so to replace. Oh and the drivers seat electric heater died – dead no good “come on man” another 500 to 800 for the seat. You want a G M car still go for it, it will keep you busy and you can enjoy the frustration of keeping their service department working while they blow smoke up your tail pipe telling you they never have seen this or that before. They want the 35 or less crowd because you have not been burned yet. Those of us over 35 who at one time were G M guys (Pontiac which had some style) have thrown in the towel. Been G M free for two years and repair work dropped to zip nothing ah feels good and refreshing to actually buy a car that works like a new car………
