Sedo.com just announced it will be holding a special online auction for one character .biz domains.
The auction starts on September 23rd, 2009 at 12pm EST and closes on September 30, 2009 at 12pm EST.
The question now becomes, what will these domains sell for?
.Biz domains has not sold well in the domain aftermarket, however one letter and one number domains are pretty tempting.
My prediction is the one letter domains will go for on average around $10K per, the one number domains $3K.
Feel free to comment with your prediction.

If these domains sell for realy low I think this could bring down another useless tld to its knees (after .mobi)
Watch out if you are a big .biz holder and if this sedo auction flops.
Aron says
Pretty cool.
Will be interested to see how it does.
This can’t help us 2-letter .com holders though.

Isn’t the opposite true as well?
If these domains go for more money than the domainer community expects it could bring new life and interest to the extension.
I think lawyers.biz sold a few TRAFFIC shows ago for like $3K, so the extension for domainers has pretty much been dead for a while, so think there is more upside than downside for the sedo.com auction.

Will there be any issue with trademarks ?
Caesar says
Mike,
True.
But I think it will flop. And even when it is a succes, that won’t change my mind about .biz
I also think they will probably put a high reserve on these names making it difficult to evaluate the succes/failure of the auction.

I’m not sure how I know, but I think the reserves will not be that high.
What do you think the average one letter .biz will sell for?
MHB says
Charley
A one letter domain or one number domain trademark, guess you have to do your own research and figure it out, but I think it would a tough one to enforce, of course always depending on use
yamanote says
e.biz now that has to be the premium pick of the bunch?

I would agree.
I would like i.biz as well, but its not being auctioned at Sedo.com.
Caesar says
Mike,
I think it is hard to predict how much they will fetch.
I believe the letters will end up at around 5-7,000 each and the numbers maybe half of that. But then again I could be deadwrong.
I assume they don’t get any traffic so I wouldn’t touch any of them for even a fraction of that, because I think as a traffic play, .biz will never take off. The value in these is in the the speculation and between domain flippers. I think the speculator’s market is very “done” at the moment and will be for a while.
Steve M says
Given the extreme rarity of one-characters; in any extension, I believe they’ll go for more:
25k+ for the letters; 15k+ for the numbers.
They ain’t making any more of the stuff (at least not yet) 😉
M. Menius says
I’m about as close to a .biz “expert” as there ever was. 🙂
There is really no downside here, only upside. .BIZ has a modest, though substantial global footprint built on gradual, small company organic growth over 7 years (now exceeding 2 million registrations, and ranking as tenth most registered extension worldwide). Aside from the initial launch, there has been zero “hyped” expansion like with .99 (or free) .info registrations, etc. And Neustar have done literally zero to effectively market the .biz address as compared to say the .mobi registry whose efforts have been quite good.
If the Sedo sales are unimpressive, no one will notice the difference, and .biz adoption will continue on unaffected. The upside will be marginal as well. Any big sale (however doubtful) would temporarily boost interest in any of the alt extensions. Not likely to make a huge effect one way or the other.
Samir Patel says
yawn. I remember when I was in college and I was interning for a company and I worked on their website. I almost died when I first found out they opted to start marketing the (theircompanyname).biz website. Needless to say they are no longer in business.
