MSNBC.com acquired EveryBlock.com, a Chicago-based Web site that collects local news and public information on a block-by-block level for 15 cities, , including New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago and Boston, in an all cash deal.
The purchase price was not disclosed, but the Wall Street Journal estimated the deal was worth several million dollars.
EveryBlock has local news stories, searchable by address, ZIP code and neighborhood.
EveryBlock.com was founded in 2007, with a $1.1 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and only has 6 employees.
