Well its been well over a year since Frank Schilling made his last post on this blog sevenmile.com.
However, his blog is still getting serious traffic and referring a ton of traffic to this blog, thedomains.com
I was looking over the stats for thedomains.com the other day and its hard to believe how powerful Frank’s blog continues to be.
Over the last 90 days, sevenmile.com was the second highest referrer of traffic to thedomains.com.
Even though Frank has not had a post since March of 2008, more people reach thedomains.com from sevenmile.com, than any other source other than domaining.com.
We have had over 1,600 referrals from sevenmile.com just over the past 90 days (thanks my friend) compared to 1,590 from namebee.com the domain blog aggregator.
According to compete.com, sevenmile.com still gets over 5,000 – 10,000 visitors a month, even though there hasn’t been a fresh blog since March 2008 and only 4 posts in all of 2008.
Even in the absence of a post, in all of 2009, sevenmile.com get’s more traffic than many current domain blogs.
It’s one of those stats that just amazes me.
And stands as quite a monument to the genius that is Frank.

A good post or blog is like a good song or a good book …
it will sell time and time again.

There is lots of Free Knowledge on that site – Im glad people still visit it.
It would be nice to hear from Frank on there sometime but I guess he is busy.
It just shows that people are still going there to see what he has to say and if he has been online.
p.s Thanks Mike for bringing us your blog daily I know it takes lots of work!

Still over 1400 readers in the feed. You won’t see Frank blogging for a while, he’s very busy counting his domains one by one…

IMO……he was the best domain blog poster that ever was. His writing ability and style, together with his insight was amazing. I do miss his posts terribly.
You Michael…….and Andrew, and Schwartz are tied for second place. 🙂

@the imposter above this
At least have the balls to identify yourself if you are going to trash people.
Geez, the previous post impersonating Frank should be deleted.

About Frank S…,
His last post was over 15 months ago but that last post was monumental in scope and was very prophetic and still applies to this day.
I can see why he gets recurrent traffic still as the backlog of his posts is probably the greatest collection of domaining expertise on the internet. Like a good domain, his blog is the gift that keeps on giving.
And, yes, the other reason is people come back hoping he’s posted something new. Like the other geniuses Michael Jordan and Bruce Lee, we yearn for more even after he has “left”.

Get real folks. The reason it gets so much traffic is not because of content but because of “Celebrity.” Frank is a hero to domainers so every single person who has a blog has listed “his” blog on their blogroll in a desparate hope that they will be “recognized” by “The One” All those sites generate a ton of traffic to his site, visitors don’t find anything and click on links to sites they hope do. This is a halo affect of his success.
“The content is excellent and stands up to time” Sounds like more deparate attempts at approval to me. Cheers and happy “ACTIVE” domaining.

Fresh Avails the posts on sevenmile.com are not informative ? Maybe you need to get real. There is more in depth info on that blog then most domain blogs that are updated everyday.
FreshAvails says
They are informative yes. But that is not why the blog continues to get traffic.

Frank is Jesus of domains. I mean it.

Mike,
If you did some page structure changes, added SEO and siloed your pages, you’d easily get the most referrers from the SE’s instead of domain aggregators.

Thanks
Just to be clear we don’t get most of our traffic from the domain aggregators.
Domaning.com is the single largest referrer, but we only get about 15% of our traffic from all the domain aggregator services combined.

UPDATE
Frank confirmed with me that the comments were not his and they have been removed and the addressed blocked.

I am not sure I would compare Frank Schilling to Bruce Lee, Michael Jordan and Jesus. I might compare Frank Schilling to a business celebrity like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Trump or Richard Branson.
I think, Bruce Lee, Michael Jordan and Jesus were great business people. But before their business success, they all had a skill that made them celebritity — martial artist/athlete/awesome carpenter and messiah (to some). Celebrity first then business success.
Mr. Schilling, Gates, Buffet and Branson = business first then celebrity. They have accidential celebrity because of an ability to execute in business and some luck.
That said Schilling’s blog although rarely updated has great insight and heavy inlinks so no wonder it gets boat loads of traffic.
Also, wasn’t there an Eminem move called Eight Mile? Makes you wonder whether it could it be typo traffic? ….just kidding.

Think the movie was 8 mile
