According to the Internet Governance Project blog, Rod Beckstrom, the former director of the US Homeland Security Department’s National Cybersecurity Center, may be the new CEO of ICANN.
The blog also says that David Eisner, the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service under G.W. Bush and former VP at AOL, is in the running.
“”””Perhaps someone familiar with DC is a prudent choice, given ICANN’s recent performance there. Beckstrom is best known for his dramatic resignation from his post earlier this year to protest the “takeover” of cybersecurity policy by the National Security Agency, an act of principle.”””
The current CEO of ICANN, Paul Twomey already announced his retirement from the office effective as of then end of his current contract, June 30, 2009
Cartoonz says
Oh yeah.. that’s all they need… to be even more secretive.
…and “announced his retirement” is the new way of saying “was canned”?
MHB says
I don’t think he was forced out, his contract was up on June 30 and he announced a couple of months back “no mas”
Cartoonz says
a couple of months?
umm… no.
When they lost big playing the stock market…. that is when it was “decided”.
Yes, it was “announced” at the Mexico City meeting in Feb. but its been a done deal since last year.
