The CEO of Yahoo, Carol Bartz, in speaking on a possible deal with Microsoft said today at the Bank of America U.S. Technology conference:
“I personally think we’d be better off if we never heard the word Microsoft”
Bartz went on to day that a search deal between Yahoo and Microsoft could provide savings to Yahoo of not much more than $500M-$700M.
Bartz said Bing will give Microsoft some “uplift” in the search market, but will not fundamentally change the competitive dynamics in the search market.
“They’re not going to get scale through Bing. They’re going to get some temporary interest,” said Bartz.
Bartz added, “Yahoo future would be “cleaner”, if it didn’t strike any sort of deal with Microsoft.
“Yahoo doesn’t have to do anything with Microsoft about anything,”
Shares of Yahoo are down about 4% today to $16.

The points mentioned are very true.
MS will not get any traction with Bing.
The mistake Y is making is that they are not showing search engine users any new innovations.
We will search where we will get the best data the quickest.
As long as we don’t have to dig thru a number of pages.
It appears that Bing is totally elliminating any parked pages.
I’m not sure if that is good or bad for search engine users.
I know as a domainer that is not good.
But, it is good that MS wants to be in the game so it will slightly help us to keep G somewhat honest.
Personally, I believe MS lost the competitive edge (driving hunger) a long time ago.
And, Y stumbled a number of years ago and appears they just can’t get back into the race.

That yehoo CEO is making Yahoo look even worse than they actually are. What a poor example of leadership.
Her first quote betrays her emotion prone inclination which is very dangerous for Yahoo shareholders. The more we hear of her the more she looks like the Biden of business.

“Biden of Business”
I Like that one

It’s all an act, posturing and BS. They are picking the easy fight and distracting us all “investors” from the fact that google continues to take market share from them.

I tried bing on some topics that I was recently researching, and Google was still coming up with better results.

I can’t tell that BING is any different from MSN is/was.
I also don’t think Yahoo needs MS. If they partner they will just drag each other down…..I guarantee it. It remindes me of Time Warner/AOL deal that was a disaster.
They will create more bureaucracy, not streamline and and crank out new products. They will be bigger though……and that is all they are looking at to compete with G.
