The Geo Aftermarket.com extended auction starts closing at noon tomorrow PST, Tuesday May 5.
We have gone through the 57 domains available for bidding in the extended auction (to see all domains click here) and here are our thoughts:
The most attractive domain is reserve.com, because it was offered at no reserve, but presently has a high bid of $12K. Estibot appraised at $84K. The domain seems to me to be worth in the 20K range, but it could go higher as there is more than 1 bidder on it already.
SantaClarita.com is certainly the best pure Geo .com offered in the extended. A population of 275K, makes it the 4th largest city in LA county. Estibot Apprised at $130K, seems to be well priced at $30K. The domain currently has one bid at $30K and therefore is going to sell.
Compare that one to Massapequa.com. Massapequa is a “hamlet” located in Nassau County, New York, (otherwise known as Long Island), has a population of only 22K, but with a very high medium family income of over $100K. Apprisaed by Estibot at $36K with a $20K reserve, which is fine for a Geo domain in a small, yet upscale area, but SantaClarita.com a much better value.
ElCajon.com, another city in California, with a population of 95K and a reserve price of $25K. Estibot apprised at $63K, a decent buy but still like SantaClarita.com, better.
Augsburg.com, reserve $16K. Augsburg is third largest city in Bavaria with a population of 265K. Estibot appriased at $34K, seems like a decent buy as well if you are going to develop it.
Longhorn.com, reserve of $35K is an interesting domain. Certainly good for western type site, it is the name for a breed of cattle and the Unviersty of Texas which is known as the Longhorns. Of course, especially if you park it, your going to have to be careful with Longhorn Steak. The domain already has a bid so is going to sell.
Ponce.com, Reserve $21K, is the second largest city in Puerto Rico, with a poplation of $195K. The domain already has a bid and will sell, and seem like one of the better buys from the auction.
Here are some domains we just don’t get:
Kodiac.com, Reserve $10,500. There is a town in Alaska called kodiak, but I have no idea of where this place is suppose to be or why anyone would pay over $10K to own it.
Geography.info, Reserve $28,750. High priced for a .info, especially considering sports.info just was priced at TRAFFIC with a reserve of under $10K. Estibot reserve of $4,200.
GoToMexico.com, Reserve $15K. High priced domain for what your getting. Estibot appraised at $130. The only suck domains with buying IMHO are those being those starting with visit or travel. I haven’t seen any offical state, country or city site using the term GoTo.
There are also some names in the extended auction which did not sell in the live, you can see our original comments on these names in our post last week, by clicking here (of course some of those domains did sell in the live).

Michael – I find we are so often on the same page regarding many issues. Was wondering though about the Estibot references. There are so many unique valuation variables which can’t be accounted for with auto-appraisals. Was curious why you used Estibot as a measure?
Thanks.

Mr. Menius
I use it to be consistent.
The service is automated and you can run a ton of domains through it quickly.
I do think it gives you an indication of value, but as you say, you can ask 50 people to value a domain and it would come back all over the place.

1. “I haven’t seen any official state, country or city site using the term GoTo.”
FYI, I have seen http://GoToPuertoRico.com advertised on television. Appears to be an official Puerto Rico site.
So, GoToMexico.com isn’t too bad.
2. “The only suck domains with buying IMHO are those being those starting with visit or travel.”
What do you mean by suck domains? Can you give us examples of visit and travel domains like you like?
MHB says
Rob
Puerto Rico should have bought visitpuertorico.com for the official site.
Rob Sequin says
Ah. Right. 😉

What about some of the alternative domains? I see you commented on geography.info what some of the .net or .org names or even pics.travel (global travel pics portal).

The idea was not to give an opinion on each of the domains, just the best and worst ones.
Regarding pics.travel, its a crap shoot on any of these type of extensions.
I own a bunch of .me,.mobi etc, and they are very speculative, but if you believe it in and can afford to lose whatever you buy it for then go for it.

How come I always see these high numbers of premium domains generic 3 letter words for sale by domainers….. and never actually see people telleing that they yactually sold the domain at that certain price… http://www.jerleaw.com ( thinking to turn in a lost and found site for Thailand an dthe Asia pacific region)
