After 16 months, we figured it was time for a makeover.
April 16th has been a very special day for me for the last 21 years.
21 years ago today I married my beautiful bride Judi.
So its a perfect day for a remix and a relaunch of thedomains.com
As you can see, the logo has changed, along with the layout, the design, the fonts and after many inquires, my right hand man, Adam Matuzich, finally convinced me into accepting some advertising.
I gave Adam a few rules to follow.
First, I didn’t want to “crap up” the blog with a bunch of ads, so as you can see we only have three spots for ads on the site. The ads will rotate so the page will look a little different every time you visit.
Second, I wanted to separate out the writing of the blog from the advertising, so I write the blog and Adam handles the advertising, the 2 do not mix. Or course, the fact that someone advertises on our blog is not going to affect the content of what is written. BTW, If your interested in grabbing one of the last spots we have available please contact moc.sniamodeht@mada.
Thirdly, I wanted only to promote companies that we knew personally. Companies that we have done business with. Companies that have given us money for service or companies we have paid money to for services.
I hope you visit our sponsors as they are heavily invested in our industry and all have something of value to offer you.
You can follow me on FaceBook.com or Twitter.com, if your not already, by clicking on the link on the top right.
The Domain Parking Stock Index has been moved to the bottom on the right side to make room for the most recent comments which are now shown on the top right.
We made the change to give more presence to those who take the time to comment as we really value them.
For the record this is the 1,100 post published in just over 16 months and we have almost 8,800 comments posted to date.
You will also notice that the comment section format has changed so everyone comments are also easier to read. You can also edit your comments if you have a typo or other correction to make in them.
Links to other sites referred to in our posts, and in your comments are now shown in blue, making them more obvious and usable. When you post a comment, if you create an account with us and are logged in, and list a Website where it asks you in the sign up process, then your handle your created to comment with, will be shown in blue, and like all other blue links will be “clickable” back to your site. (if you don’t want such a link, leave the Website address blank).
So for those who want to promote themselves in their comments, will not have to put their website in again and the end of their comment and your comment will then be immediately published. If you do put a link in any of your comments, that comment will have to be approved manually (no change here) as its the only protection we have against publishing spam, which we get plenty of.
Of course all the posts and all your comments have been saved in tack. The best way of finding an old post (what I do if I’m looking for one) is to use the search box, half way down on the right. The search feature is really good at finding exactly what your looking for. So for example, if you want to read about the “new extensions” just type that into the box and all the posts that we have written on that subject will come up.
We still have have a little tweaking to do and we are waiting on some ad copy which is running late so you will see some minor changes over the next week.
We appreciate any comments or suggestions you have other than “I liked the old format better” because as Justin Timberland sings “the old one is dead and gone”.
As it is my anniversary I wouldn’t expect to hear much more from me today, (I want to make it to 22 years), but we will be back hard at it tomorrow.
Thanks for reading and all the support.
Michael

I like the new design. BIG is good!
Is the code for your Domain Stock Index publicly available somewhere?
I have a stock index (unrelated to domains) that I would like to build for one of my sites and like your simple layout.
Any help on that?

Mike,
Congratulations to you and Judi! I had heard a rumor that they were resetting the Hope Diamond into a beautiful pendant, and now I know who bought it from the Smithsonian 🙂
Adam did a great job on the redesign – very clean, modern and and easy to navigate.
Please make the logo clickable back to the homepage though 🙂

Site looks great! What stands out in my mind is that for your anniversary you updated the site? Good thing nothing went wrong with the transition. Anyway, enough giving you a hard time congrats and good work.

Nice freshening up for sure. Mucho better.
Have you considered using the “More” option and making your posts carry-over on to the second page?

New design looks great and congratulations on the anniversary. Word has it that you were seen celebrating early last Saturday at Mizner but it was the dog who was getting the most attention and had the best time.

Happy Anniversary guys!! Love you both!
Site looks great!

MHB,
You have by far the best blog in the business! Keep up the great work.
My only criticism is that you do not have the .com part in the logo. I think that is part of your brand and should be in the logo.

More importantly, Happy Anniversary to you both.
Boy; with 21 years under your belt, I’ll bet it’s getting harder an’ harder to get away with telling people you’re “only 39!” 🙂

I guess I’m the only one that liked the previous version better.. Too much white for me. Sorry….just being honest.
Great site and info though……that is why I always come back.
Happy anniversary!
