Mike, I need to ask:
Are these domains just not what you’re looking for? Not the right criteria? Below your standards?
Are you just not in the acquiring mode right now?
Are you fishing other grounds instead?
I just am curious why you are offering these besides for the sales commission.
No offense whatsoever meant by this post.

I decided to try these types of posts to see what I could generate with them for a couple of months and don’t know if they will continue past this month.
I’m still acquiring domains
Tony says
Mike,
Those questions burn in me because they suggest:
1) the time it takes to find those domains is better translated into sales commissions VS acquiring those said domains which may lead some to think
2) the state of the domain industry is such that a top domain portfolio holder would rather get 10% commission VS acquire those domains
3) the value of domains is not anywhere as high as they once were because of 1 & 2
I realize this is an experiment for you but those are the implications that pop into my head.

I think you are over thinking the issue.
First of all we are not the only one doing this.
There are at least 3 other bloggers I know about that select domains from snapnames.com so if we don’t point these out one of the otherones probably will.
2. We, like anyone else, can only buy so many domains.
We have a budget.
We love a ton more names than we can acquire.
I could easily spend 100K per week on acquiring domains that I like.
However, I’m not oversee or demand or namemedia.
I don’t have $100 Million+ in venture capital money to spend on domains.
3. There is also the tax issue we i have discussed before, and if your US based and acquire domains your going to have to dig in your pocket for additional tax money. If you didn’t read it the first time here is the link:
http://www.thedomains.com/2008/07/22/when-it-comes-to-taxes-us-domainers-are-at-a-huge-disadvantage-and-it-may-get-a-lot-worse/
We still acquire way more domains than we sell.
So we have to prioritize and choice domains that enhance other domains we own.
Bottom line, we can’t buy them all.
Just because we pass on one doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good domain or a good buy.
Do I like the three letter .com, sure but they are going to sell for more than I’m willing to pay. I already have 100 3 letter .com’s, if I could get a deal on one I would buy it, but to go out and spend $5K+ on one, I don’t need it.
Last week we spent $22K on discountbedding.com because we developed luxurybedding.com into an ecommerce site and its a natural fit.

A good example of it is George Kirikos’ Math.com online store:

It’s interesting to see various “4” dotcom domains pop up in various auctions/venues from time-to-time.
I remember reading some big PR about/from the company (anyone recall their name?) after they’d reg’d thousands of them for–seemingly–virtually all product, service, etc categories/applications during the dotcom boom of the late ’90’s/early 2000’s.
BullS says
Pretty soon there won’t be any more domain names left- the dot com ones.
So get them while they are still hot.
Don’t come running to Mr.Mike for more domains.
