A new survey in Australia found that a majority of small businesses have little or no web presence and no registered domain name.
Out of almost 1700 small businesses surveyed by accounting software firm MYOB, only 41% say they have a website. Even fewer businesses (29%) actually use their websites for e-commerce.
A slightly higher proportion of businesses have registered a domain name, but they are still the minority with 55% saying they have yet to do so.
I love stories like this that show how far the internet has to grow and continued demand for domain names.

You are a CHAMPION with this website – keep up the GREAT work – I only go to 5 domain name related forums / website and yours is one of them.

Mike,
This is the case in Bahamas as well, very few businesses use web sites for e-commerce. Until about 3-4 years ago the Prime Minister’s office used hotmail for their email !

Very interesting, I just returned from London and was pleasantly surprised that most companies I saw had web presence. I would approximate 50 percent of what I saw utilized a .co.uk; rest .com….several radio jingles even ended with the company’s domain name!
Not to say that they were “great generics” Most just the company’s name….which is better than nothing at all.
-Thanks for all that you do Mike-

I check the small business ads in a number of newspapers here in Texas and the majority do not have a domain name or web presence. I still encounter a few people that are not aware of what a domain name is and how e-commerce works. There is still a market.
