In my dealings with Tucows last week I discovered that not only does Tucows own a lot of adult domains but they are monatizing them adding revenue from adult domains to their bottom line.
Although their is nothing wrong with a public company being involved in the adult business, there are several of these including Rick’s Cabaret (RICK) and Frontier Media (NOOF), it was suprising to find out that Tucows owned and was profiting from such names as “pussyshop.com” and “onlinepussystop.com” along with tons more.
I know that Marchex sold off the adult domains it received with Yung Yee portifilo a while back.
NameMedia.com in preparation for going public, sold off its adult names last year.
I believe the Oversee.net also, in hopes of going public one day, sold off many adult domains as well in the past year.

Since Afternic doesn’t accept them (which I believe is a good thing), I’d be surprised to see Tucows adult drops being handled through them.

Maybe they won’t drop them, just keep the ones that make money and let the ones that don’t drop.

There is nothing wrong with adult domain names as long as the content on the domain name website does NOT contain child porn and people forced against their will to perforn adult “stuff”.
Sex is part of reproduction within our Human world.

I Just think that shareholders of public company’s should have full knowledge and understanding of what they are investing in.

I have looked at some portfolios of some “top domainers” and noticed quite a few “adult-themed” domain names, to put it politely. Some of the “titles” are quite shocking. I doubt anyone would want them associated with his or her name in a public setting.
I have the distinct impression from their comments that persons discussing these “top domainers” on the forums and blogs, as they are prone to do, are not aware of these particular names.
In fact, such commenters seem to believe that these “top domainers” are not involved with “adult-themed” domain names, and appear to give special credence to the “top domainers” for this supposed fact.
This is just an observation. I make no judgment on it, other than it shows that many are simply unaware.
What I wonder when I see these names is just how valuable they are in the porfolios, relative to the other names. It would be amusing to me to learn that these adult names are in fact the largest profit-generators in these portfolios. Otherwise, why keep them? They sem to carry more potential risk (e.g. public embarassment) than benefit. I too am unaware. I am unaware of how valuable these adult names could be. I simply do not know.
We have come a long way since the 1950’s, in the West. And we’re still going. Sex is more liberalised and openly dealt with today than it has been in the last 100 years. Who knows how liberal it will become in the next 50 years? Maybe things go in cycles and societies will become as sexually liberal as some of the more “colourful” examples from the ancient past.
