What a missed opportunity for the organisers to lay the groundwork as the brand who understood the future values of European language . com’s & local code TLD’s where was carinsurance.com in Italian/French / Turkish /Spanish or any other foreign language TLD’s
were those registrants aware of the auction & if not why not ? Professionally organised for the European markets ?

Looks like the same group of people by in large submit domains to these auctions and the same group shows up to bid on them, only the venue and time change.
How to get non-domainer’s who own valuable domains to put them in at auction is the challenge for these auction and getting non-domainers t bid is the other.

After looking at the sale prices, no one will be willing to submit a quality domain.
If they want to dump it for instant cash, they can put it on the different domain forums. Why put it in an auction like this and have to wait months to be paid after giving it away at below wholesale prices?

I bet I know someone that is SMILING over this one:
aftermarket.com $125,000
Congrats…
where’s the LIST — of the ones going to SILENT… post full list here if you have it…
Thanks…

It make you laugh. ICA-EU? They aren’t even capable of selecting a decent list of domains to auction. Its not they didn’t get any half decent names, frankly they haven’t a clue what they are looking.
Good opportunity, totally squandered.

Interesting post and response – let’s see what the other Paris domain name auction will bring in $ terms.

Guys
We will post a complete list of silent domains next week, closer to when the silent auction starts closing.

Dave
I don’t see what the ICA has to do with the domains selected for auction.
The auction is handled by moniker.com and ICA is a completely different organization.

You only took one of my comments.
I said that:
“How to get non-domainer’s who own valuable domains to put them in at auction is the challenge for these auction AND getting non-domainers to bid is the other.
So you picked out one of the comment geared to non-domainer submitting their names.
Of course if you don’t additional bidders from the retail community it would not turn these small auctions around.
However there are buyers for high quality names, aftermarket sold for a good price.
There just were not enough of these high quality names at reasonable reserves.
Robert Haastrup-Timmi says
This looks like a huge missed opportunity.
I can hardly believe after all the promotions, there was hardly any “foreign” domain names present. With all due respect, they really need a new marketing strategist. This auction would be laughed at by most europeans, french italians, spanish etc..
I mean they came all the way to europe to sell a bulk of english names tacked on with cctld’s…very tacky indeed! whatever happened to bonjour.fr or homme.com?
There is far too much cronyism in the domain industry and it is killing what should be a very vibrant market.. fast! We desperately need real innovative companies to help take this industry forward…maybe google should just buy out the entire aftermarket and make it ubiquitous. Just my 2 cents!

From what Moniker reports, they are sifting through a couple hundred thousand domain submissions. I have to believe that at least a couple thousand of these fit the category of great domains at decent reserves.
My rep at Moniker came back and asked me if I would lower my reserve on some domains and I did – so I have to imagine that others did the same thing when asked.
My domain HighLimitRoom.com is in the silent with a lowered reserve so we will see…
I am very interested to see what they choose for the Affiliate auction as I have some killer niche categories with good page rank and growing traffic on about 150 domains.
The main component for upping the ante on these auctions is getting the word out to the end user but for whatever reason it is not on their playlist. Until one of us figures out how to do it – I guess we wait…
Empedocles says
Robert I Agree.
A lot of comments over the last few weeks ref Paris domain list and all negative from Europeans. Admin you defend your colleagues when our comments are constructive. This is a jolly for TRAFFIC members who have thrown in flotsam
they picked up in error.
Marketing is the way any auction house works
Whois (we all know) gives all the information required to contact contact TLD registrants
As I have said before If the reserves are to high,to low let the markets decide, better no sale due to high reserves than no sale due to awful domains in North American language terms. Paris France European domain Auction is a very poor advertisement
(HighLimitRoom is not term used in the UK )

phoneaccessories.com $25,000
Congrats to the seller for this one.
Kelly Lieberman says
Empedocles,
(HighLimitRoom is not term used in the UK)
Agreed…
But, it is a term used in casinos throughout the world, and therefore likely well known by tourists from all nationalities.
It is also in the silent auction, not the live, which theoretically they could open up to a wider range of domains.
Empedocles says
Hi Kelly. I am with you, good luck and all fortune to you, I just think that the term should be in the languages you wish to target, I am from a European tribe. It taken a while to lose the UK totem pole but until we speak a common language or translation software changes ( another domain question ) takes over it was a European Auction

The problem I’m sure is that moniker is US based.
All the employees are US based.
They do not to my knowledge have any presence outside the US.
Therefore it would be hard if not impossible to have the feel you need when you target markets outside of those you live and work in.
Maybe they should have hired someone in Europe who had a better feel for the language and customs to select the list.
tommy Butler says
The poroblem with the auction is when in Europe if your selling a .se name its better to have it in own launguage. why buy a name with english word for a diffrent country it makes no sence at all.
Maybe its better to leave the European auctions to europeans instead having a american company trying to domanate european name space

Tommy
You maybe right
willie says
The point that goes in favor of an English term with a ccTld is that there is a bigger audience for English terms versus a local language.
A simple example is a dot se pr a dot tk. Even if it is a great generic term, it will definitely have a wider audience in English than in the local language.
Just a basic fact that English is spoken more thatn many other languages combined, even in the respective countries, especially online.

Can’t we all just get along ? Yes, some folks are still learning that America is not the center of the globe and when in Rome…

Is there any venue for selling short, dot com names which have not been developed? I have a large portfolio of names in several categories – lots of eco and green category names – which are just in cash parking. How can I get these names either to an end user or accepted into an auction?
admin says
Linda
There are many venues.
Moniker.com live auctions either at the TRAFFIC shows or at one of the many vertical industry auctions they run.
You can submit names to them at:
http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/auction/index.html
Sedo.com also sells domains on their auction platform as does Godaddy.com.
There is also afternic.com
Finally you can always sell on ebay.com
