To make money in 2008, you need to start like any other year, concentrate on products and services that appeal to people’s basic needs.

Especially when the economy starts to soften you got to start by looking at what people really need to make them happy, or what they need to live their lives

When we grew up, we were told that people had two basic needs, food and shelter.

So now you’re sitting by yourself in a room, with a roof over your head and a refrigerator stocked with crap.

Happy?
No

That is because people we know that people have many more basic needs than just food and shelter.

Here’s what we consider to be people’s other basic needs:

 

• Entertainment. As a species we need to be entertained.
  

   

  We love to be entertained.
  

   

  Movies, television, music, radio, sports, amusement parks, concerts, Broadway shows, gossip magazines, nightclubs, celebrities. Everywhere you look is entertainment and devise and technology that delivers them.
  

   

  Flat screen televisions, iPods, DVD players, Youtube.com, DirecTV, xmradio, Movie theaters, home theaters.
  

   

  Yes we love to be entertained. We want the entertainment at home, we want to take it with us wherever we go.
  

   

• Travel and Transportation. People have a basic desire to go to new places, get away, take a break, explore. We need transportation to work and play.
  

   

  Once again products and services that deal in these areas thrive. Gas, Cars, airplanes, travel sites, booking sites, yachts, planes.
  

   

  We need to go and we need a lot of product to get us there
  

   

   

• Communication. People need to communicate with each other.
  

   

  We have since the beginning of time.
  

   

  Whether it’s e-mail, telecommunications, cell phones, text messaging, social networking, blogs, people need to interact with each other every day.
  

   

   

   

• Stay Informed. People have a basic need to know what is going on in their life and their world.
  

   

  Since the beginning of time people needed to know what was going on in the family, in their business, in the world.
  

   

  In olden days it was radio and newspapers that fulfilled this need. Today the need is filled by television, the internet, news networks newspapers their cell phones and radio.
  

   

  Where it’s seeing how Aunt Sally is feeling or what the score of the game is, people want to be informed.
  

   

   

• Love, Sex, Relationships, Friends. Unless you REALLY like yourself, your going to want to at some point, to fall in love, be in a relationship, make friends and have sex (not necessarily in that order). Porn, dating sites, friend sites, friend finder sites, personals.
  

   

  People need love, people need to make friends, find old acquaintances. Have sex.
  

   

  Business in these areas have client and customers waiting t spend money.
  

   

   

• Make Money. You have to make money to do all or any of the above. I don’t think that making money is a “basic need” as it’s not something inherent in people’s basic nature to do.
  

   

  I don’t’ think people have a natural urge to make money, but most of us realize at a pretty young age that life costs money (and takes visa).
  

   

  Many people would be fine with never working, yet we all know we must, if we want to have any of our basic needs fulfilled.
  

   

  Therefore anything you can do to find people Jobs, or deal with careers, professions, headhunters, can make you money. Anything dealing with making people money works. People want to make money, they need to make money. People obsess about it.
  

   

  Business, investment advice, gambling, stocks, bonds, franchises, cd’s, the universe of money making is very rewarding to those who can provide the service.
