In an article published online today in Fortune Magazine, small business, entitled “websites for cell phones“, they examine the .mobi extension, and it’s a pretty positive article.
The author of the Article Mina Kimes states in part:
“If the first wave of online business was all about getting a dot-com, the next may be about adding a dot-mobi.”
That’s a pretty strong statement.
The article goes on to cite the sale of poker.mobi for $150,000 and ringtones.mobi which sold for $145,000.
The only real negative in the article is that damn .com button on the iphone.
We own around 75 .mobi but we are not especially bullish on the space.
Last week the Wall Street Journal announced that they were launching wsj.com online.
They didn’t announce it as wsj.mobi, they announced it as wsj.com, mobile.
Oh Yeah, the Wall Street Journal doesn’t own WSJ.mobi. A Mr. Matt McBride, through the company “Internet Investments, LLC,” does.
Maybe the Wall Street Journal should have followed Ms. Kimes advice and acquired their .mobi extension.
Very interesting reading for all the .mobi holders.
