It looks like two ladies named Kylie are at odds when it comes to trademark rights. Kylie Jenner has filed a tm application for the word Kylie for “entertainment in the nature of providing information by means of a global computer network in the fields of entertainment, fashion and pop culture.”
Australian star Kylie Minogue who has owned Kylie.com since 1996, and has several trademarks herself, is opposing the application.
According to Mirror.co.uk, court documents reveal pop princess Kylie Minogue has formally opposed the application, describing Jenner as “a secondary reality television personality who appeared on the television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians as a supporting character.”

Secondary reality television personal… Ouchhhh lol

There is and only ever will be one Kylie.

Prediction: Settlement — the young Kylie buys the trademark and its goodwill for an “undisclosed amount”.
Kylie Minogue just doesn’t have the arsenal of cash Kylie Jenner has access to (either hers, friends or family)
5-10 million USD — for the trademark assignment. Maybe Kylie Minogue will throw in the .com.
They all have their price in the world of celebrity.

LOL @ “Kylie Minogue just doesn’t have the arsenal of cash Kylie Jenner has access to (either hers, friends or family)”
Steve, no offense, but you really have no idea of what you’re talking about … 🙂
Kylie Minogue has an estimated net worth of around 75 mln USD, stand-alone (Source: Forbes).
As of today I agree with her definition of Ms Jenner as “a secondary reality television personality”.

Has a teen besides “Barbie” had her own corporation named after her, as in this case, Kylie, Inc, and with over 15 trademarks filed in multiple classes.
Shirley Temple? I doubt it.
Michael Jackson? Don’t think so
Maybe those twins, the Olson girls?
I reviewed the USPTO database — most of Kylie Monogue’s trademarks have been abandoned, i.e, DEAD.
She still has one active trademark and a recent filing KYLIE MONOGUE DARLING — and an opposition proceeding/complaint filed against Kylie Jenner, i.e, Kylie, Inc.
This will get settled within a month. It will cost Kylie Jenner about 50 tweets (she gets paid $30 K a tweet when mentioning a product name)
I mowed yards, washed cars and boats, and did construction work at her age, 18, while attending my university. But no complaints. It was all fun.

Kylie Minogue owns many TMs, some for the terms “KYLIE”, “KYLIE MINOGUE” and others which date back to 2003, in many Nice classes of products/services.
As far as I can see, here the clash is due to the fact that Ms Jenner has applied for the registration of the term “KYLIE” in Class 41, for the Entertainment business, where Kylie Minogue already has a TM for the same Nice class, and she’s known worldwide as KYLIE for many years.
She’s rightfully opposing IMHO, if I was her I wouldn’t want my longtime “brand name” diluted in the Entertainment business by a “reality tv personality”.
That said, I’m surprised to see how late her management applied for protection of the term “KYLIE” in Class 41.
IMHO her TMs could have been managed better. 🙂

Kylie Minogue has been serenading us for many years now, and her brand is strong. So when she learned of Kylie Jenner’s application to trademark their shared first name, Minogue was quick to protest via legal measures.
Thank you for post !

@Andrea
I believe you’re being kind when you state you agree with the definition of Kylie Jenner being a “secondary reality television personality”.
I have no idea what Kylie Jenner does besides take selfies, according to my kids, and get to play model because of her “followers” on Social Media
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a family (the Kardashians) conduct their entire personal and professional lives around a “brand”. It’s surreal, an almost-reverse ‘The Truman Show”, wherein the reality stars are playing with the viewers for their own amusement and financial gain, with the joke being on the viewers
The Kylie kid is 18. Her handlers see a long-term brand. So her investors, handlers, lawyers will go full throttle to secure the “Kylie” brand. Maybe she’ll require a licensing fee from all the Kylies of the world who pursue a career in entertainment.(kidding, I hope)
I’m in Kylie Minogue’s corner on this one. But we’ll see how it plays out. I wasn’t aware she had $75 million in cash.
Andrea Paladini says
@steve
I was referring to Kylie Minogue estimated net worth, which includes many assets, not to how much cash he owns, which is just a part of that 🙂
Andrea Paladini says
she* owns … typo, sorry
steve says
Kylie Minogue’s legal team have amped up the attack on Kylie Jenner,
charging in the filing that Kylie Jenner was best known for her “photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts” on social media .
Kat fight that!
