Google Buys More “Letter” .Com’s: Now owns 19 of Them; Maybe only 6 Left

December 27, 2015 by Michael Berkens

Google bought several more “letter”.com’s yesterday picking up

abcdefghijkl.com

abcdefghijklm.com

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxy.com

All registered in 2004.

Since turning the domain world on its head buying abc.xyz Google now owns:

ABCDEFGHI.COM
ABCDEFGHIJ.COM
ABCDEFGHIJK.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKL.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLM.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMN.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNO.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRS.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRST.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTU.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUV.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWX.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXY.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.COM

Google doesn’t own:

A.COM – not available
AB.COM – owned by Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley)
ABC.COM – owned by Disney ABC Television Group
ABCD.COM – owned by Disney ABC Television Group

That leaves these domain names that appear not in use, parked or going to a registrar holding page:

ABCDE.COM
ABCDEF.COM
ABCDEFG.COM
ABCDEFGH.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQ.COM
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVW.COM

The reason has something to do with the fact that Google is no longer its own parent company. As of 2015 Google is now a subsidiary of another company, named…

      Alphabet, Inc!!!!!!! https://abc.xyz/

And I suppose Alphabet, Inc must own the alphabet, online. Or, at least the alphabet .com domains.

no – they are going nowhere – good or bad with all this

yeah, I mean it is pretty obvious they have run their course, I have no idea what this play is. I wish they would say, “we don’t know what we are good for so we are going to fire everyone and just go back to working on ads because that is still the only thing to this day making us any money.”

I know someone at BMW must be laughing every time Google buys an alphabet domain.

In my opinion, this has more to do with algorithms in relation to legnth of strings and type-ins. They can formulate content and the use of domain names in how the pubic uses direct navigation. It’s a social experiment on intuitive proformance. With Google, it’s all logic and mathematics. I’ve written previously that domain names empower people, it can be said, domain names “are” people. Maybe Google is about to find out if that’s true. Happy New Year

You can understand abc.xyz as a “PR” move. The buying of all these other letters — who knows? Maybe the company ordered MarkMonitor to buy up the alphabet?

Last time I checked Google has the 2nd largest market cap in the world at over $525 Billion.

And Google hasn’t even begun to fully monetize key assets and products?
Project Fi – which Comcast fears more than Verizon or Charter
YouTube – which the Studios fear more than Netflix
Vital Monitoring, including Glucose, devices: talk to Medtronic about Google and watch the executives get nervous.
Google has made many mistakes. Google Plus, Motorola, Dodgeball, Google Glass (but they will pivot this one)
But it’s pretty well positioned, as are Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and even Microsoft

As far as domains: if Google starts buying up all the letters in other extensions: it will be absurd and not even funny. Buying all these letters in .com makes no sense, in my opinion, But what do I know?

    very simple question :

    why is a.com not available?
    z.com is registered !!!

    i dont understand
    who own the internet ?

    • Joseph Slabaugh says

      December 28, 2015 at 6:23 pm

Its not “owned” it’s reserved. The company that previously owned it let it expire, along with a few other companies that owned one-letter.coms, and they ended up being reserved. Only like a handfull of single letter .com net and org names survived, combined.

The only thing I can think of registering all this alphabet domains by Google ! that they will trademark the domain and in a year or two they will file UDRP for all domains in existence and hijack the English language and the internet.
    Happy new Year every one.

EGO!, for me that is the reason of getting this domains, they want to own the alphabet as that is their new main company name.

Google renamed itself alphabet earlier this year. That has to be the reason??

BMW scheduled to make a big announcement at CES in January about the “Future Driving Experience”. Rumor has it Google may be partnering with the “Beamer”.

    “How did you get Alphabet.com?”
“3 letters – BMW — on lots of self-driving cars.”

Since the parent company is named Alphabet, shouldn’t Google be buying up all alphabet related domains instead? Like alpha-bet.co (a website actually).

      Also maybe any translation?
      αλφάβητο.com (alphabet in greek)
      αλ.xyz (alpha beta)

Google’s great plan is to Trademark every letter in the alphabet and then take everyone in the world to court for Trademark infringement.

    What about αβ.xyz ?
    Alpha Beta = Alphabet
Of course it is a IDN, but that’s the origin of the term. Maybe a smart choice for google/alphabet?
Not available for us, but google can access anything $$$
