BMW has filed a UDRP seeking control of the domain name hack B.MW with the World Intellectual Property Organization WIPO.
.MW is the country code (ccTLD) for Malawi.
According to the whois record for the .MW registry the domain name B.MW has a creation date of 07-06-2004 but was updated in On March 10, 2015, with the domain possibly changing hands.
The domain name B.MW is resolving to A.MW which is owned by Living By Blue, Co. TLD out of Japan, which lists hundreds of domain names for sale with prices including a lot of single letter ccTLD domains.
UDRP panels have taken the entire domain including the extension to award a domain to a trademark holder. Tesco won the rights to the domain Tes.co as a UDRP panel considers the letters on both sides of the dot to match Tesco’s trademark.
We will keep our eye on this one.
Louis Doyle says
Seems like a pretty open and shut case to me, the domain owner has registered several other trademarked domains several belonging to other motor companies and seem to be asking for $1,200,000 when they are listing their other 1 letter .mw domains at around $xxxx.
