PVP.com sold for $70,000 on Afternic. PVP commonly referred to as Player Vs Player in gaming circles. The domain currently is under Afternic escrow for whois, and does not propagate properly and timing out. The domain has a registration date of 12/14/08 which seemed odd to me.
It looks like the history of the domain started in the Cayman Islands, if we go back to the earliest records Domain Tools has on the name, we see:
Modern Limited - Cayman Web Development PO Box 908 Suite #147 George Town, Grand Cayman GT US
Then 12/29/06
Whois ID Theft Protection P.O. Box 116WB West Bay, Grand Cayman GT KY
3/28/08 it came out of privacy:
BWI Domains PO Box 116 West Bay, GRAND CAYMAN (KY)
Now on 6/10/08 it would seem BWI has a buyer, as the name is at Rebel.com and now shows:
Registrant Sedo.com, LLC Domain Transfer Escrow Service One Broadway, 14th Floor Cambridge MA US 02142
8/27/08 the domain still shows at Sedo Escrow, the next update 12/14/08 seems that the domain has now been auctioned at NameJet as Namebio shows the name sold for $60,099.
Domain Name: PVP.COM [whois.enom.com] Registrar: UNIPORT NET SERVICES, INC http://www.uniport.com
The domain is updated on 2/20/09 and the domain is at Moniker:
Registrant [283918]: Domain, Admin domainadmin@acceas.com Acceas Partners LLC. 3712 N. Broadway, Suite #431 Chicago IL 60613 US
So it looks like Acceas sold the domain and made a profit of just under $10,000 gross, of course not sure what commission rate they paid, so it could work out to be a loss on what is a great LLL.com.
***UPDATE*** Andrew Rosener of Media Options contacted TheDomains and said he sold the domain, Afternic was used for escrow only.
Bram Chauvin says
Purchased for $60,099 and sold for $59,500 ($70,000 – $10,500 commission to afternic). So the seller (Acceas) had a $599 loss (ignoring the renewal fees).
Great domain though… PVP in games is huge.
DNPric.es says
Right, it sold there at NameJet back in January 2008. Was it a drop?
Raymond Hackney says
Good point Bram taking the commission into account it would work out to a loss depending on the rate.
