Hilton just bought the domain name ChicagoAirportHotel.com for a whopping $850.
The domain name was listed on a Buy It Now basis through Fabulous.com
So one of the largest hotel chains in the world just picked up the bang on matching domain for one of the busiest airports in the country for less than $1,000.
If you do a Google search for Chicago Airport Hotel you will see Hilton is an advertiser under the term as well as Booking.com and Expedia.
Don’t you think Hilton spends more than $850 in adwords to advertise under the term each month?
Come on people, lets not give good domains away.
I’m not saying they would have paid $100K for it but they very well may have paid $5K or even $10K.
Hilton took possession of the domain yesterday

Some have large portfolios that have enough traffic to cover the costs of the registrations so they can sit and ask 30 grand for a domain that most would be happy getting 10 grand for because that’s the only way they can survive. If you have 1,000 domains you are guaranteed every year that 9 grand has to come out of your pocket to cover the costs of the registrations because you can’t generate enough parking revenue off those 1,000 domains. To actually turn a profit with a non-parking business model you have to sell domains at a lower cost to create cash flow and that’s why sales like this occur on a daily basis but most of the time we never hear about it.

I’d rather sell 100 domains for 20% of their best-case retail value during a given period of time than sell just 10 domains during the same period of time for 100% of their maximum.
A domain’s price really depends on who owns it. ExampleDomain.TLD will sell for more if it’s owned by Frank Schilling or Michael Berkens than it will if it’s owned by someone with fewer sales under his belt or lower cash reserves, simply because very successful domain investors can afford to stick uncompromisingly close to the max price and wait for years if necessary to get it.

A steal for $800? Should be 5 – 10k? I have the absolute hatrid for you domain people. The most useless link in the whole chain.
