According to a Press Release ICM Registry, the registry operator for the .XXX top-level domain (TLD) for online adult entertainment, announced “that new .XXX domain registrations created from May 1 through May 31, 2013 will be available at .COM prices.”
“During this limited time only, registrants can lock in prices, as low as $ 8.99 for up to 10 years”.
Customers looking to take advantage of this limited promotional offer, should contact their usual registrar or one of the many participating registrars at www.icmregistry.com/buy.
Although Manwin owner of YouPorn.com has its own press release out today saying that the price of a .XXX registration is going to be dropped to $7.85 a year in May that is at the wholesale level.
At the retail level the lowest price appears to be $8.99 per year according to ICM
“With both Search.xxx and XXX.XXX showcasing and driving traffic to developed .XXX sites, together with the recent launch of the Search.xxx ad platform, there is a growing awareness of the value of the .XXX domain,” said CEO of ICM Registry, Stuart Lawley .
“”ICM is also making significant moves to protect .XXX participants with its recent applications to operate three additional adult entertainment-related TLDs — .SEX, .PORN and .ADULT. If awarded these new TLDs, ICM Registry will offer an unprecedented “grandfathering” clause and will automatically reserve matching names at no additional cost to those who already have .XXX domains. .XXX registrants can chose to do nothing and the matching names will never be released under the new TLD suffixes. If however, registrants choose to register the new names for use, there will be a nominal fee. This means .XXX domain holders can potentially quadruple their exposure and the value of their holdings, while brand and trademark holders who own or have reserved .XXX domain names are automatically protected and will not have to register or reserve those names in the new TLDs.
Each .XXX website is malware scanned to protect both website operators and consumers. Every .XXX site also comes with a MetaCert electronic Family Safety label making it easier for users, organizations and parents to adjust their browser settings to restrict access to websites that are clearly labeled as potentially adult oriented content.
“Our goal is to serve the adult industry by continually creating new initiatives and platforms that increase the inherent value of each .XXX website,” said Lawley.

This settlement is excellent news for the adult industry. This, coupled with the launch of the new gTLD’s, will ensure a competitive marketplace. Moreover, IFFOR no longer fraudulently claims to represent the adult industry, but rather, more appropriately and more accurately, have reformed themselves to serve Registries.

THIS IS HUGE NEWS

Question to all:
Do you think prices for .xxx will remain at low prices (7-10$) for the years to come?
Or is this a once in a life time deal ?
What are your thoughts??
sak says
ATTENTION BLUE-LIGHT SHOPPERS: Once you become the K-Mart of domains, it’s difficult to then turn around and tell people that you are “elite” and they should pay high-end prices. They have just become the cheap, trashy red-light district that the Adult Industry predicted they would be.
sak says
I suspect that Mr. Berkens’s silence on your question concerning the future value of these domains indicates that he might agree with me. His once-precious Founders portfolio is now worth diddly squat.
Just a thought, but maybe, in the future, domainers will think twice before trying to screw over the adult industry–it can be a costly endevour.
Michael Berkens says
In this case Mr. Berkens’s silence is due to the fact that Mr. Berkens’s has to do some stuff offline and can’t be at the computer 24/7.
We are just 1 1/2 years into the .XXX launch and now maybe we have maybe a game changer.
I don’t buy a new extension with the thought that is going to be worth a fortune a year later.
You have to give a new extension 5 years to mature
Michael Berkens says
According to the Manwin PR under the settlement ICM has to offer this type of deal in the future as well.
However as of June 1 prices do go back up to the level they were at yesterday
ontheinterweb says
they probably wont be able to get that $100/year once the gTLDs are here..
Michael Berkens says
The wholesale cost was $62 prior to the price decrease anything above that went to the registrars
Eze says
So Michael, you say that june 1st prices should go up?
I personally think prices might stay around that price and maybe this is only a marketing scam to get people to lock in for 10years.
The ICM registror, is not playing a far game here at all. I don’t trust them.
I have a funny story to back this: I had the Vice-president lie to me saying that an adult company was going to sue me over trademarks, and the ICM would gladly try and smooth things out with 3rd party, but I would have to gave my domains up. Then to make the deal sweeter (but really not) they told me that they would trow in exchange some ”top” domains….the funny part is…that the domains they were going to trade with me were first really shitty, second some weren’t even registered….and I actually registered them myself!!
But this is HUGE NEWS and will change big time the adult world!
Manwin allowing promotion and affiliate using .xxx is huge, it’s half the adult industry! So now we can all say that .xxx is here to stay!
@Sak No i’m sorry…this news is only positive for the .xxx extension.
B.ElZA. says
Michael, does this offer include price for renewing .xxx?
B.ElZA. says
And, does this price apply if I want to transfer my .xxx domains to other registrar?
B.ElZA. says
I have spoken to a registrar who said that this price applies only to new registrations. My question to ICM is this : why the ones who registered .xxx and beleived in the extension , supported it and kept renewing them can’t benefit from this offer?
Grim says
“.XXX – This May, it’s the perfect Mother’s Day gift.” (See, that would have been more imaginative marketing than simply lowering the price, which essentially makes you look desperate. What a rookie marketing mistake.)
sak says
@Eze You may be right–.xxx might not turn into the slum that I described. It appears that, instead, it will remain a ghost town. Even after all of the PR yesterday, ICM sold only 129 domains.
Michael Berkens says
Eiza
The prices will go back up on June 1 Confirmed by Stuart over Skype yesterday
Current domain holders cannot use the special to renew their domains your still stuck at the higher rate.
Even the price of 10 year domain blocks also went on sale yesterday
Sak 129 domain yesterday actually is quite good as they have only been doing a few a thousand registrations or less in a typical month
Eze says
” The prices will go back up on June 1 Confirmed by Stuart over Skype yesterday ”
Thanks Michael
