According to his Facebook Page Mike Mann’s DomainMarket.com has just had another really nice sale under his belt selling the domain name SkyBoard.com for $60,000.
I reached out to Mike who told me he acquired the domain name SkyBoard on April 5, 2007 for $2,446.79, a remarkable return by any measure.
The new owner of the domain name is SKYBOARD, Huu Huan Nguyen of Paris France who is yet to change the servers of the domain.
Mike wanted to let everyone know that he still have the plural version of the domain Skyboards.com for sale.
Congrats to Mike and Mr. Nguyen.
Who says brandables are poor investments? Nice sale.
It’s a nice brandable domain. Buyer should’ve checked who owned the plural first.
Congrats to Mike! That’s an amazing ROI for a brandable.
Congrats.
You make smart investments and there is going to be a return.
so, we should soon see a SkyBoard.com site? … or … only see this domain sold to another domainer, then sold to another and to another and to another?
Amazing, the Mann really does have the Midas touch
…and a great domain like DomainMarket.com
Congrats
@superdomainnames I doubt this name will be flipped by other domainers as every one is mentioning here that it is a brandable domain, It only gets 590 exact global monthly searches (which is good for a brandable), and the whois company is SkyBoard. You can tell this was and end-user buyer and not a domainer . I bet there will be a site. Good job with the sale Mike.
Hello,
I’m the buyer of this domain name. Indeed, my company is the end-user buyer.

Regards,
Huu Huan
nice one mike, I hope you get the same amount for aroundthebend.com, and all the other brandables you’ve outbid me on
Good to see Mike getting some praise here…nice sale!
The flip side is Mike Mann probably had 6000 other domains he didn’t sell and spent $50,000 on yearly registration fees so his net is probably closer to $2,500 after expenses.
This reminds me a lot like the casinos.
You hear the bells and whistles in these articles, but what they don’t tell you, are the silent losers that pay and pay in registration fees including Mike Mann that actually make them lose more money in the end.
Hello John,
Excuse me what planet are you from? If you are intelligent and have no chips on your shoulder you can do quite fine in this BIZ.

Jeff, with all do respect.
For every winner, there is thousands of quiet losers.
Foir every lottery winner, there is a lot lot of losers.
This article can also be written
The one that sold at a -$57,500 loss.
Hello John,
Change your Mind , Change your World, sorry I lost my temper.

How is this any different that buying a domain for $10, and selling it for $2400?
Own enough inventory, and you will have sales like this sometimes, just a numbers game.
Tom
or buying a domain for $1.00 and selling it for $240 or buying a something for $.10 and selling it for $24
Except for the $59,976 you would be missing
First, skyboard is not a brandable. It’s a thing/generic. It’s like a snowboard you jump out of a plane and skydive with. There is no snow wee involved you just sort of surf the air and do tricks with it. Looks cool on tv.
Second Tom is right, it’s a numbers game if you want to do this for a living. You have to have a big inventory to get consistent sales. The trick is however picking your inventory correctly, otherwise you won’t have any sales. Mike Mann is really good at picking inventory. He’s certainly proven that over the years.
To some extent its a numbers game but you have to have quality inventory.
Having 100K names that don’t mean anything is not going to get you much more sales than having 1,000 crappy domains.
Solid brandables are the cheapest entry point for newbies.
I just passed on registering BookDistrict.com – this one has potential. Not good enough for me though.
Mr. Berkins, what is your batting average ?
Out of how many domain names do you think, you sell, per year ?
fees including Mike Mann that actually make them lose more money
Stop guessing on how much Mike is losing money on domain business, and read his story in their web site and learn how rich he is. Don’t think SkyBoard.com is the only domain he could able to sell
@ John
Most domainers never let the facts get in the way of a good story
In their world, annual reg fees are not “expenses” to be deducted from annual revenues.
They don’t count.
They are quietly ignored.
They are much like gamblers who only ever remember their few big wins.
They brag about them often & never let you forget it.
Losses – which exceed their wins – are quietly forgotten about.
Happy Father’s Day, Mike Mann!
Aggro
In theory you are right, but when someone has been doing something for over 10 years and continues to make money year after year doing it the same way, and in Mike’s case, not to mention the $80 Million dollar sale of his previous portfolio then you need to realize the guy knows what he is doing.
Its not smoke and mirrors in Mike’s case.
We also have a large carrying cost on domains and we sell well less than 1% of our domains every year, but for us we have been profitable into the seven figures every year for many, many years.
To everyone saying Mike has been losing money and all, I wonder what a tiny percentage of $60,000 you could have been able to sell SkyBoard.com for.
Hello Michael,
There is so much piss flying on this subject that the mist is clouding the fact that Domaining is very successful for most, not all.
My advice , Know your target before you pull out your tool, or you may just piss on yourself!

Hail to the snart ones, Mike and Mike. Everyone else on this thread is just a pretender, so shut your traps.
You’re darn tootin’ !
