According to Statcounter.com, Google’s Chrome browser has passed Firefox for market share for the 1st time on a global basis in November.
“”Chrome took 25.69% of the worldwide market (up from 4.66% in November 2009) compared to Firefox’s 25.23%. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer still maintains a strong lead globally with 40.63%.
“We can look forward to a fascinating battle between Microsoft and Google as the pace of growth of Chrome suggests that it will become a real rival to Internet Explorer globally,” commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter. “Our stats measure actual browser usage, not downloads, so while Chrome has been highly effective in ensuring downloads our stats show that people are actually using it to access the web also.”
“”In the US Internet Explorer continues to perform strongly and is maintaining market share at 50.66%, up slightly from 50.24% year on year.””
“”Firefox retains second place on 20.09%, down from 26.75%. Chrome is up to 17.3% from 10.89%. Safari is on 10.76% from 10.71%.””

A couple of pointers here,
one; I wouldn’t consider a 0.46% lead from Chrome over Firefox as suggesting it is the only genuine contender to IE and that Firefox isn’t.
two; statcounter’s percentage reach for all netizens browser usage needs to be factored in as this would determine it’s data accuracy ratio to the total usage estimate (which too needs to show it’s percentage variance, eg: stat +-var%).
The information presented isn’t that credible if was surveyed say from only 8% of the total estimated browser (population +-var%) known.
It would be interesting if Google Inc decided to aggregate all it’s webmaster tracking products (adwords, analytics, plus one’s.. etc, etc, etc.) Knowing that their percentage reach for all netizens browser usage is alot greater than statcounter’s, only then we may be able to see some more accurate browser usage results.
Food for thought 🙂

I’ve been using Google Chrome more and like it. One thing I miss from IE though is the pull down menu of Favorites you can do. Not sure if Chrome has it too. Other thing bad about IE is you can’t upload the latest versions if you have an older Windows program. IE is getting very buggy for me now and doesn’t access everything easily. Chrome gets me everywhere.

We use all the current browsers and I have to say I love the Firefox SEO toolbar plugins.
For simplicity chrome works very well.
