ICM Registry, In A Record Setting Sale Sells Gay.XXX For $500K

October 5, 2011 by Michael Berkens

According to Xbiz.com Corbin Fisher, one of the world’s leading gay production studios has “acquired the domain name Gay.XXX.

I reached out to  Stuart Lawley the CEO of ICM Registry, the operator of the .XXX TLD who told me that Gay.XXX was sold for $500,000.

At $500,000 Gay.XXX becomes tied for the 5th highest domain name sale  in 2011 according to DNjournal.com

I also think its sets a record for a domain name sold pre-launch by any registry for any extension.

Of the recent extensions that sold domain names pre-launch,  we know e.co sold for $82,000; O.co sold for $350,000; Flowers.Mobi sold for $200,000 and Date.me sold for $70,000.

It also looks like one of the top 5 non.com sales in the past couple of years.

Mr. Lawley told me that “ICM has now sold 9 .XXX domain names for $100,000 or over”

HuntingMoon.com has a few .XXX domain in an auction that will end tomorrow.

In that auction are these domain names:

Feet.xxx $100,000
Fantasy.xxx $75,000
Girlfriends.xxx $40,000
bbws.xxx $7,500
LiveGay.xxx

s
$3,500

At the TRAFFIC conference which will be held in Ft. Lauderdale these .XXX domains will be auctioned off:

  • Movies.xxx
  • Singles.xxx
  • Personals.xxx
  • Chatroom.xxx
  • Orgy.xxx
  • Virtual.xxx
  • Stars.xxx
  • Blondes.xxx
  • Party.xxx
  • Local.xxx
  • Juicy.xxx
  • Hotties.xxx

Congrats to the ICM Registry and the buyer.

I hope that if .XXX fails that in a couple, three years folks in this industry will stop touting these crap extensions.

.mobi was not enough for these people, .co did not make them happy after what has largely been a failure, now we have .XXX. Personally, I think .XXX is the best chance of one of these extensions grabbing hold, but if it does not, I’m going to believe that if .XXX can’t catch on then nothing will.

I two years we will begin to know for sure whether .XXX can hold a candle to .COM.

I believe that .xxx will be the hottest new domain out there. I can’t wait to grab some domains at auction.

    Muscle

.Co hasn’t been anything but a huge success. I have my first “major” sale pending at $20K which I bought for $100.

    Its only been a year.

You guys a new extension needs a little time to get adopted and understood.

.Co within its first year has a football stadium named after it.

However I do agree with your statement , “if .XXX can’t catch on then nothing will”

“””I two years we will begin to know for sure whether .XXX can hold a candle to .COM””

Of course Its not going to hold a candle to .com.

There are over 100 Million .com’s registered how many of those are adult domains a few million?

Of course .com wholesale for $7 and change and .xxx wholesale for $50

So if the registry can wind up its 1st year at 500,000 registrations that would be a huge success.

non.com’s is all a stroking game, every one one of them, .co, .xxx, .mobi dick and all the rest – a game my my better business instinct says stay away from.
