Sedo.com just released its sales list for the week ending Monday July 25th. All reportable domain sales totalled $1,535,707. The top seller of the week was Aktien.de at $725,565 followed by OnlineDegree.com at $120,000.
“Aktien” is a German word translating to ‘shares’ (stock). The exact sale price was 500,000€ which is substantially higher than this years previous highest selling .de domain – Market.de at 30,000€.
Aktien.com has a US based registrant but resolves to a German content page about shares linking to another German financial site.

The cctlds seem to be gaining some traction. Some pretty decent sales in this space. Brandable domains: Electric Zebra -$1300, Mootz $7981. Wow.
OnlineDegree.com was great sale. Makes the $22.8K paid for OnineCollegeDegrees.com on Sedo a steal. Most college students search for the complete long tail name.
Degrees.com is not even a popular site. For a website worth in the 6 figures range, it is definitely failing to make an impact. There are bad domain names that manage to score ten times more traffic than the best generic name. Good domain names don’t necessarily mean nothing without an innovative plan.
Nonetheless, any with “online” and education attached to it will have a high CPC. I own OnlinAdultEducation.org. I would gladly sell the site. I also own FastDegrees.org and many others in the education niche. I receive many searches for “fast degrees” and “fast online degrees”.
Education dot com sites used to deliver good ad clicks. In recent time, the clicks have dropped 85%. A $6.50 click is now $.50 and so forth. Not much activity in education domains beyond building them into companies or lead generators to promote various online education companies.
GoDaddy pays high ad clicks, but they will cancel you if the traffic is not organic. Essentially, promote your domain on a domain sales platform and get canceled.
You can’t expect to get even half of the prices you see on this list.

You can burn more money messing with a language you don’t purely understand. Also you must have a permanent contact adress in Germany to register DOT de and if you build a website on the domain you have to have a permanent adress incl. Fullname and contact information with phone and Tax ID number (If beeing a Business).
Aktien is the plural, so the correct translation would be “Stocks” and not “Stock”
Different rules and different needs apply in different countries, so it’s not a good bet to just use a translation tool and think you can put in a name like for example ” Free credit report” and get “Kostenlose Kredit Auskunft” which is great in the U.S. but has no meaning in Germany because there is no such thing, which means it’s a useless Domain.
