Playboy Launches Playboy.Mobi

April 6, 2011 by Michael Berkens

Its been a while since I have seen a press release announcing the roll out of a major .mobi site but today both AVN.com and Xbiz.com are reporting that Playboy has launched Playboy.mobi.

“”Playboy Webmasters has announced its newest addition to the family—Playboy.mobi, the mobile version of Playboy.com.”

“Forecast to be the number one method of internet access by 2013, mobile devices have quickly become the go-to choice for millions of consumers around the world.”

“With an estimated 5 percent or more of web traffic stemming from mobile users, Playboy believes that mobile is a profitable market to maximize upon.”

“We have solid tools out of the gate and in the future, affiliates can rely on regular updates including exclusive content, white labels, banners, wallpapers, screensavers, RSS Feeds, and more,” the company said in an announcement. “Affiliates who utilize our mobile script on their websites will reap the profitable rewards of instantly redirecting mobile traffic to Playboy.mobi.”

PLAYBOY is a strong brand – Soon the TLD will not matter

One Kid to another Kid…”What’s a TLD ?”

Yes, the same Playboy who launched the cable show named Wednesday and then told everyone to visit Wednesday.com – and we own it. Glad to see they’re still on the cutting edge.

    “It is a Bottom-Up Multi-Stakeholder Process and …”
Yes, this is the bottom. YOU are always on the bottom.
YOU always get the short-end of the stick.
Funny how that works ? .EH ?
    Thanks for Playing !!

I think they fairly recently also launched Playboy.TV, so apparently trying some other extensions. Sort of like O.co did and a few others.

I think .mobi is interesting because it really stands for mobile and mobiles are hotter than ever. Popular websites need a version of their site that displays well in mobile devices. There is script to let websites (like Facebook) detect you are connecting from a mobile device and then subsequently serve the mobile-friendly version of the site, but developing the mobile version on another domain like Playboy did is certainly another option. Developing on two different domains will let the user decide which version of the site they want, regular or mobile.

I was in Qatar airport and had to wait seven hours for my connecting flight, GOOD GOD you have never seen so many mobile devices going at once.

I can easily envision a marketing strategy for large companies that would include presence on .com, .TV, .info, .org, .us, .me and even .mobi as they expand their efforts. Each with unique content that is a natural fit for these extensions.

Anunt, you whine about buying flowers often.
I remember being in the room when Rick bought it from .mobi.

I would suggest you appreciate your good fortune.
It is worth a lot more than what you paid.

    I own 20+ killer .mobi that I haven’t don’t anything with.
Maybe, Hugh will help bringing back .mobi.
