According to Xbiznewswire.com, China shit down 62 Porn sites yesterday and guess what?
None were on .XXX domains:
“According to reports, the Information Office of the State Council has legally closed the sites for disseminating “pornographic pictures, videos and ads.”
The websites were registered in 15 provinces and municipalities and also provided a forum for prostitution and nude video chats.
This is the latest crackdown by China to ban porn in the country. In 2009, the government launched a campaign to take down porn and vulgar content from the Internet, including mobile connections.
The Information Office said its earlier efforts have effectively curbed the proliferation of porn on the web.
“However, the campaign will be a long battle and government agencies will make concerted efforts to attain a clean Internet environment to facilitate the healthy development of adolescents,” the office said.”
So what’s the point ?
As we posted about last week there are countries that censor, block and shut down sites all the time, and that way before there is even a new gTLD in existence.

HUH ? .XXX was like, just launched, no ? Obviously, then, none of them are going to be .XXX. I think your extremely pro-gTLD bias is showing …..
Once .XXX launches they will be blocked IN THEIR ENTIRETY, rather than just a few dozen domains here and there, hand-selected to be banned …

The story gets better, every day, being precise it is the .XXX sTLD (Sponsored TLD)
Each .XXX sub-domain applicant will get a rectal exam, DNA test, TSA pat down, regular screening, etc.
You can see the line forming of ready “Applicants”
TheBigLieSociety says
BTW, since the .XXX is an sTLD (Sponsored TLD)
…
and part of a very old Proof.of.Concept Market Trial collection (.COOP .MUSEUM .AERO .JOBS)
…
can one assume there are no ICANN Franchise Filings ?
…
for real TLDs – gTLDs will there be U.S. FTC Franchise Filings describing the Business Opportunity in detail ?

dot cn is worthless.
China blocks almost everything from USA whereas USA opens everything from China.
In short, China Screws USA deep.

“ICANN has also taken the unprecedented step of increasing its per transaction registration fee from $1 to $2, “to account for anticipated risks and compliance activities and a fee escalator that will allow for increases to the fees and to account for inflation.”
Other protections have been put into place to further indemnify ICANN from anticipated disputes, including ones that “allow ICANN to manage any third party dispute proceedings at ICM’s expense. ICM’s consent would be required for ICANN to settle a proceeding in a way that requires ICM to pay monetary damages, and ICANN would be required to work in good faith to mitigate ICM’s expenses.”

Everyone in China who wants to register a domain name has to have a valid ID and have to go thru with the registrars (in China)that are approved by the Communist China . They have to wait for 7 days for the govt to verify who the real ownership is.
That how they track each and everyone.
I have clients from China asking me to register many of the domains they want and of course I charge them.

maybe, it’s not a moralistic decision, but adopted only to avoid that chinese may being distracted from their 15 hours per day work

“Mr. Chairman, I regret that the title of today’s hearing (“Is ICANN Out of Control?”) conveys an erroneous impression about what ICANN is and what it is doing. Even more seriously, the title of the hearing tends to distract attention from the truly fundamental issue before this Subcommittee: How will the Internet’s plumbing be managed? More to the point, will the coordination of the Internet’s key technical functions be administered (1) by the world’s governments and bureaucrats, (2) by a private company pursuing its own private economic interests, or (3) by the global Internet community as a whole? ICANN represents a strong endorsement of option (3), a consensus-based private-sector vehicle through which the Internet community — engineers and entrepreneurs, businesses and academics, non-profits and individuals alike — will coordinate Internet names and numbers. The fact that these hearings are taking place today under this title, however, is stark evidence that this issue — how will the Internet’s plumbing be managed? — is still in doubt.”

It’s a cat and mouse game. They block 62 sites, 62 others will open. Citizens want porn more than the government wants to block it – as simple as that.
