There’s always last minute bidders. We’ll know tomorrow if the .co auction was a success or failure.

  2. Aniol says

    February 16, 2011 at 11:51 am

It seems like 9 domains have reached the reserve, but they are rather low value (with exception of mp3.co). The highest of them are:
    mp3.co 1.000EUR
    touchscreen.co 800USD
    minijuegos.co 725 EUR

  3. Alan says

While Sedo has another day to go, I am still very surprised with the low number of bids.
I guess its too early to flip .co’s

  4. Insurance.io says

I predict 5 or more $250K .Co sales from this auction – smart, big money never comes into the action until the last half-hour.

I was on Bido today – they’re starting to pick up alot of decent bids on the ccTLD’s…its nice to see some life over there.

Btw., anybody knows of a non-Columbian website running on a .co domain?

  6. em says

    February 16, 2011 at 12:28 pm

I’m sure there will be a few nice sales in the Sedo Auction. There are names with some pretty low reserves as well like universities.co and pizza.co. There are also a few in the $500-1000 and $1000-5000 ranges that haven’t met reserve but I look for most of those to sell.

  7. Brad says

    February 16, 2011 at 12:30 pm

To be honest I think some of the keywords in the $10K – $24,999 reserve range are higher quality than many in the $50K – $100K+ range.

  8. em says

    February 16, 2011 at 12:42 pm

    @Brad

I agree. I also think there are a few in the under $5000 area that are pretty top quality.

    pizza.co
    solar.co
    hipoteca.co
    shop.co
    creditcard.co
    downloads.co
    movie.co

I believe the era of domain auctions is over. We just negotiated a 20K deal for a small dotCom name to an enduser. In an auction, I doubt if it would have pulled 2K.

  20. coTRAVEL.co says

    February 16, 2011 at 2:47 pm

    @David,

What was the domain you sold for $20K?

  21. Brad says

    February 16, 2011 at 2:48 pm

This statement came out of SEDO regarding their .CO auction –

“All the good names are taken,” said Jeremiah Johnston, chief operating officer of Sedo. “For small businesses, this is a chance for them to upgrade their domain names.”

Sedo has launched radio ads in a new pitch to promote their auction, which aims to outshine woebegone extensions like .net and .biz.

“Those never caught on,” Johnston said.

I am all for hyping your .CO auction, but a little reality check here.

1.) There are 13.5M .NET regs
2.) .NET is the second most popular gTLD in the world
3.) There are 300,000+ new .NET registered every month with a net gain of 75,00+ per month

I don’t think SEDO trying to throw a well known, credible extension under the bus is great for marketing. It looks pathetic IMO.

    @Brad:
“I don’t think SEDO trying to throw a well known, credible extension under the bus is great for marketing. It looks pathetic IMO.”

Well, Mr. Calle did exactly this. Was it “pathetic” of him in your opinion?

  24. Brad says

    @coCasino.co

Fine with me. I own LasVegas.us

I would prefer to own that city it its native ccTLD instead of the Colombian ccTLD anyway.

    Brad

  25. Burbank.CC says

    February 16, 2011 at 2:59 pm

    @Brad,

I don’t rank .net in the top 5 extensions…times have changed, my friend.

    TOP 5 Extensions:

    1. .com
    2. .tv
    3. .co
    4. .org
    5. .me

.net is either #6 or #7…fighting for that #6 spot with .cc. I see .cc being top 3 within 5 years, for obvious reasons and with a little help from the search engines.

  26. Sanjay says

    @coTRAVEL.co
Because of NDA I can’t say, but I will tell you it was a very long tail Geo dotCom.

  29. David J Castello says

    February 16, 2011 at 3:09 pm

    Burbank.CC
You would seriously put dotCC above dotNet? DotTV and dotCO above dotOrg? The highest selling dotOrg is Poker.org for $1,000,000 (last year). It will be a long time before any TLD besides dotCom touches that. How soon people forget dotMobi. During its heyday, dotMobi had people crawling all over it (and this was when the economy was cranking). If anyone dared to criticize it you had the dotMobi Nazis swarming on you in a NYC heartbeat. No one seems to remember that now.

    ——–

    THATS …
cause Billy Bob and his Ucle are hiding in the Auctions shadows
and are keping artificaly the reserve LOW,
so THEY can have it and Turn it around and secretly flip it later.

Think about it, the nerve of any Auction/Broker to tell YOU
to keep the RESERVE LOW … cause
if its cherry, that’s the price it will be stolen for.

To Auction House, Broker Bullshiters , Corporate Shills

That’s probably why I see a lot of sales already this year on my non-auction site. Seems folks want it when they want it.

  32. Ludwig Boren says

    February 16, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Very very strange auction, I think many last-second bidders are out there. It will be a great deal if someone buys a bunch of these domains at that prices. One could be the .co king :P, not that it is such an honor, but it’s all about marketing and developing the right way.

Nice pick about touchscreen.co I think the owner has done a great work about reporting past sales, probably that’s why it has already met the reserve!

  33. domo sapiens says

    February 16, 2011 at 4:03 pm

    the question is :
how many of those bids “under reserve price” are from other .co players?
Knowing darn well there is no obligation, in additon it appears to me there is but 3 o 4 palyes on each of the names…
the interest of rather lack of is Not a suprise at all, all of those names will become soon “hot potatoes” a la .mobi

  34. Karl Jackson says

    February 16, 2011 at 4:13 pm

I one who firmly believes that the real “gold” are the .COMs. Just think back in the past when “first” toll-free numbers came out. What toll-free numbers are as rare as hens teeth? The 800 numbers of course. When people think “toll-free”.. 800 always come to mind. When people think of a domain name what TLD comes to mind?

  35. cm says

    February 16, 2011 at 4:26 pm

“If anyone dared to criticize it you had the dotMobi Nazis swarming on you in a NYC heartbeat”

Now days it’s the .Co Cartel you have to worry about, Lol.

Cartel definition from Wikipedia: It is a formal organization of producers and manufacturers that agree to fix prices, marketing, and production.

  37. Karl Jackson says

    February 16, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Today is what counts. I have offers for up to $100K on .COMs. Companys like that would never invest that much in anything but a .COM. For a lot a domainers and investors this is a serious business not to be taken lightly. There are life changing domaining opportunities today that I think will be harder to tap into as much in the future. 🙂

And yes, as soon a the “big” ones go they will be listed.

  38. cm says

    February 16, 2011 at 4:42 pm

I couldn’t find anything about the .co auction on the cointernet.co site.
They will not get any money, but would indirectly benefit if some of the
best names were bought and developed/start receiving high traffic.

To Landon yes you are correct in what “some” people do that actually is a minority. However here is a last sale I did on Sedo for a domain that was ALL dashes! Im in the us and the buyer is in UK. The domain? R-I-D-E.COM

The “real” lossers are the nay sayers. Off to the poor house they go. Ya gotta be positive and deal with ONLY positive people and you will have success, love, happiness, etc. et. etc.

If I was in charge of marketing the .co’s at GoDaddy or any other registry, I would price
all of the .co’s and .com’s at the same price, that way if you can’t find a .com you would be
more likely to take the .co rather then gamble 30 bucks when they return to their original price. It would then add millions of .co’s to the internet and become more widely accepted.

  48. Karl Jackson says

    February 16, 2011 at 11:12 pm

Yes, but competing against the .Coms with a .CO in the “serps” would be major to consider too in as much as all you see is .coms rankingfor the most part.

  49. Robert Cline says

    February 16, 2011 at 11:14 pm

    @Alan

    You are absolutely correct.

.CO must price them the same price as the .COM

Otherwise registration is going to slow down.

It is better to skin many sheep over and over again than to kill it.

  50. Robert Cline says

    February 16, 2011 at 11:18 pm

One think SEDO does need to do is prefill the login fields.

I would be bidding 5 x times more if i didn’t have to god damn login everytime I had to bid.

SEDO prefill the login fields like ATT does it and like Godaddy does it and you will get 5 x times more bid.

  51. Karl Jackson says

    February 16, 2011 at 11:22 pm

I think Sedo and Internic sold 1 Mil+ in domains last week. You would think Sedo had enough webmasters on payroll to make logging in a little more effiecient. Maybe soon hopefully.

So there is one of the SHILL’S bidders confessing right here and now …

So SHILL lets see how many you end up owning, (winning) NONE!

  53. Karl Jackson says

    February 16, 2011 at 11:39 pm

Karl here before I go to get rest. One of the reasons I sale a steady amount of domains as I said before in a previous post is because I own my own site that is Not an auction. And yes I am on Sedo too, but most of my sales come from my own site.

I believe 2 trends are beginning to shape up. Number one, a lot more domain buyers rather hit a “buy Now” button and purchase out-right and number two they definitely don’t want shills inflating prices on domains they want so they are choosing normal domain websites where they can make offers, negotiate or buy now.

  54. Brad says

    February 16, 2011 at 11:40 pm

As anyone may see from all my previous post it is the .COMs that sell, sell sell.

Quite possibly many people did not realize GoDaddys Super Bowl commercial regarding the .COs did not fair very well.

Anyway I agree with Aniol’s post that is was interesting to see that most bids were on the Spanish domains. With a little luck maybe I will sell VisasNorthAmericanas.com “It translates to American Visas.

Not desperation by no means my friend. I just sold one Today for $25,000.

My Spanish is not the best and translation was from Google. However I
appreciate the heads up. I will ask my amigo what he thinks.

The reason I added the domain in my post is because I felt like it. 🙂
