With the new year we thought we would start publishing a blog post on the 30th of every month of a calender highlighting some of the events in the upcoming month in the Domain and Internet world.
January is sure jammed packed with shows and auctions.
The largest convention in the US kicks the year off as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) rolls into Las Vegas.
Always full of the latest gadgets and new technology, it’s a must follow event. The stuff that you will be talking about in 2011 will be debuted at the show.
The show will be held January 6th-9th.
The AVN adult show is held concurrently with the CES show in Las Vegas starting January 6th and continuing to January 9th.
For More info or to registered click here.
The AVN Awards Show, will be held at the Palms Resort and Casino, on Saturday, January 8, 2011.
The Affiliate Summit West, “the premier affiliate marketing conference”, will be held also in Las Vegas January 9-11 at the Wynn Hotel. It is one of the largest such shows that will be held all year.
Literally every major player in the Internet Space will be represented at the show.
For more information or to register click here.
The Internext Show which is for adult webmasters will be holding its largest show of the year, also in Las Vegas from January 9-11.
Promising more than 1,500 attendees the show is a must for adult website operators.

On January 12th Hunting Moon will be holding an adult auction as part of the AVN/Internet shows of over 500 top adult domains.
The auction will be held on Snapames.com.
The auction is currently opened for bidding.
The two highest priced domains in the auction are FreeSex.com with a $3.5 million reserve and Tits.com with a $2M reserve.
SnapNames.com will be holding its monthly showcase auction featuring “Generic & Keyword” Domains will end on January 18th at 3:15PM.

The 8th annual Internet Dating Conference (iDate) will be held in Miami January 19-21st.
According to the show organizers:
“At the most recent iDate Miami event, well over 500 senior executives from the Dating and Social Networking industry attended.”
For more information or to register click here.
Snapnames will be holding an auction in conjunction with the iDate show which will start end on January 20 at 3:15pm EST.
For more information on that auction click here
The Social Networking Conference will be held January 19-21st also in Miami. While they hold three shows a year, the Miami show will be the biggest.
The show is described as covering the “business aspects of the enterprise social networking markets and strategic communication in the USA, the E.U. and the Asia. Topics covered are: new media, new technologies, strategic communications, mobile, venture capital, enterprise social networking and internet personals, software, global business strategies, partnerships, legal issues and payments.”
For more information or to register click here.
January 21st also marks the last day you can apply to bid in the i.Co auction which will be held in February.
Unlike most auction, you will have to pre-qualify to bid in the auction where the the starting bid is $100,000. Of course with Overstock’s acquisition of O.co we expect this auction will hit at least the $350K Overstock paid for O.co and with it being an “i” world right now, I’m thinking $500K or more.
For more information including registering to bid please click here
GreatDomains.com is holding a premium auction which will end on January 27th.
For more information please click here.
Of course technically in February DomainFest will kick off on the 1st in Santa Monica. More details on that one next, in our next Domain Calendar which will be out January 30th
I’m sure we will always miss a few things but that’s what I have all of you for .
If I missed anything, please feel to add it to the comment section below and I might update the post as well.

There are many Private Events (all year) in .VEGAS that are invite-only.
The U.S. FCC attends CES with a wide variety of leaders, staff and groupies.
This year, the FCC will likely be pressured to define, “What is the Internet” ?
Experts from Harvard, Yale and Princeton are trying to define, “What is the Internet” ?

Private deployment of “Internet Technology” should be at an all time high at CES this year. Several thousand Private Top Level Domains will likely be placed
on reserve/restriction by NTIA/FCC/ICANN.

A lot of great happenings on the horizon, 2011 looks to be a stellar year for domain investors.
The Hunting Moon adult auction is a joke or more like a big embarrassment. Most of the listed domains are mediocre at best with ridiculous reserves. Their last public auction (that I am aware of) I tracked. I think like 3-4 domains out of several hundred sold. It’s garbage.

There are other Private Walled-Garden Networks people (and the FCC) get to sample at CES and parallel shows. It is sort of odd, they enter a booth or room
to become part of that Private Net. They go to .VEGAS to do that while many
people do it from their Private home, yacht, villa, nest, crib, pad, domain.

I was at AVN in 2009. It’s worth paying the $150 (per person) business entity admittance as this entitles you access to areas restricted to the general public. Various seminars, networking opportunities and the latest product vendors trade show. The general admittance (public) part of the show is like a zoo, with scantily clad porn stars and their groupies, it’s pretty disgusting (think frat guys on a cocktail of steroids and viagra).
Still, I was taken aback and proud when I saw a mob of porn business executives and porn stars surrounding Max Hardcore who had just been convicted of federal obscenity charges, everyone was rallying around him knowing he was kind of the fall guy for the industry and would soon be serving 46 months in prison. While his work is graphic, disgusting and has little artistic merit, his case was a landmark case and it was a touching moment amidst all the chaos.

MHB,
that’s funny I missed those two posts on your blog about Max Hardcore. I did not read them yet, as I am in the middle of some host issues, but I will when I get a moment. From the little I know of the case, he really did push the limit of what is acceptable in terms of public decency and consumption of porn, but at the same time the government or someone in some federal agency had it in for him and repeatedly went after him, failing several times on various charges, but finally busting him. You also have to think about the political climate in those times, and I think he was kind of used as an example of what the government would or would not tolerate.
It brings up a whole host of issues concerning how the law is mandated and federal vs local standards of decency. Without a doubt, the best piece of legal advice that any lawyer has ever given me and which I would like to pass on to anyone creating adult content is: Go to your nearest adult store and purchase the hardest porn you can find (video or otherwise) and staple the receipt to the bag (don’t even open the packaging) and file it away. In the future if you are ever charged with violating your townships standards of decency (a very serious offense) you now have an invaluable piece of evidence of what your communities standards were before having created your content.
🙂

It is also interesting to see who does NOT go to CES, yet they are there, don’t kid yourself.
It is interesting to see who said they were going and claimed to cancel.
It will also be interesting to (soon) see who arrives with Uncle Sam and says, “Let’s all be adult about this.”
