BMW Rolls Out BMW.tv & Starts Running Television Commercials For It

November 17, 2010 by Michael Berkens

BMW just gave the .TV extension another big boost by rolling out BMW.tv. in a last few months

It looks like the car manufacturer has owned the domain for a while but its was directed to BMW.com.

However now the site which is chocked full of videos of its cars and is being featured in as the go to URL in television commercials plus viral videos submitted by enthusiasts.

Take a look at bmw.tv and then take a look bmw.com and the US site bmwusa.com and let me know what you think the best and most effective of the bunch is or where a car shopper would spend most if there time if they were in the market for a new car.

    MHB,

It seems that the last six months of this year have been great for alternate extensions. There seems to be increasing awareness and acceptance of them. I think it’s great for the domain industry.

Also, I came to your blog today expecting to see and article commenting on the RIM ceo’s comments yesterday about apps and the web. He made it quite explicit that apps are unnecessary for the web. Though not discussing domain names, his analysis seemed quite bullish for domain names and dn investors.

Its is indeed a great looking site, definately worth the wait, sits nicely alongside http://www.Renault.tv and http://www.Mercedes-Benz.tv.
This is exactly whay .tv is about imo.

All three of the sites are well done and each have a unique look. No clear winner in my opinion alhough the .TV site is a welcome addition. .TV is inherently a good space imo.

Wait until Oprah rolls out, Own.tv! .TV is really picking up steam with big end-users.

Nice sites, indeed, but why the hell didn’t they use youtube? Everything is happening there. I wouldn’t look for BMW commercials on their website, I’d first look on youtube always. And they already have their own BMW site on youtube!?! This is just marketing and a waste of money

.tv is the only TLD besides .com and .net that makes sense for corporate use. BMW.tv is cool, but AUDI.tv has a much better style. And yes, Youtube would have been be the better .tv by far. These self build solutions are not up-to-date anymore.

I found this recently written article on the possible future of .TV domains to be of interest; perhaps you will too:

Almost every single city-or-country”news”.TV is taken. Could these .TV holders be sitting on goldmines? Example: DenverNews.TV

    Hmmm…time will tell.
