Quotes.com just sold at the DomainFest extended auction on SnapNames.com for $1,150,000
Its a great domain and can be used for insurance, stocks and other financial markets.
Compete.com shows the domain having over 20K visitors a month and Alexa ranks the domain as 450,000 most visited site.
In all 19 domain names sold totally $1,261,905.
With the Live DomainFest auction, and the sale of the TShirts.com domain package the night before the show, the total haul for DomainFest was just over $3 Million.
Not bad as the overall economy seems to be melting down again.

After reading about the poor sales results on the TRAFFIC auction (and in the last month or two) things seemed to slow down a bit. However, after seeing this post I think things aren’t as bad as they appear to be afterall.
Very nice sale! Congrats to the buy and seller
This is a great name but I’m willing to bet that almost all the traffic was for people searching for inspirational, motivational or other types of quotes and not anything to do lead generation.
Reminds of the story Frank wrote about when he parked banks.com .. most people were looking for information on the surname banks and nothing to do with finance.
It was a great buy .. hopefully someone actually does something with this other than switch DNS.
Alan
That could be but the domain certainly wasn’t bought for that purpose.
Anyway quite a change from TRAFFIC today
Great numbers indeed! Quotes.com is a superpremium, I think it went for cheap.
Quotes.com is a $3 million to $5million+ domain asset.
The owners must have liquidated this name for cash purposes.
Buyer got a total steal!
Moreover, they were evidently completely clueless with respect to lead generation!
Heck, a few major financial or insurance leads from Quotes.com could have generated over a $1 million in commission!
“Live DomainFest auction, and the sale of the TShirts.com domain package”
I myself would not include the Tshirt package in the total…the word “live” being the reason…the names were sold BEFORE the live auction and were not included in the auction proper. my 2 cents.
Mike .. I did say it was a great buy
.. actually do like it a lot.
btw .. fix your list — pretty sure it was newyorkapartments.com for $65,000 not luxury .. though luxury is pretty nice also.
Tim
That’s why I said live domain auction AND sale of Tshirts.com which occurred the night before.
I think its just fine including the domain as it was going to go to auction the next day.
Told ya.
William,
I love it … “Moreover, they were evidently completely clueless with respect to lead generation!”
isnt that the truth.
Alan
NewYorkApartments.com sold at the Live auction for $65K.
Today LuxuryApartments.com sold also for $65K.
I Would be surprised if it wasn’t the same buyer.
Bill
The owner of the domain appears to be dotzup
Seems hard to believe they didn’t know about the concept of lead generation
nice … very good price
the broker that purchased NewYorkApartments.com said his clients were willing to go to ~$125k for the name in the CNN Money interview, so it wouldn’t suprise me if they picked up luxuryApartments.com as well. Both are great names.
There were some great names sold at very reasonable prices in the extended auction.
Luxuryapartments.com for $65k… seems ridiculously overpriced to me unless they have a developed website that is driving some nice targeted traffic.
How many type-ins will that domain get? I’d guess less than 100 per month.
Overpaid and now they need to do all the work to turn it into something.
“owner of the domain appears to be dotzup”
and the buyer? it’s a company (that wants to USE it for a website) or (again) a domainer (that only wants to resell it with profit)?
With reports on home sales diving, apartment rentals are up. Why not, luxury apartments. I remember seeing Monte joking during the auction over how “you can’t have NewYorkApartments without LuxuryApartments”
it helped set a positive mood for the eventual sale.
post edit: …it’s a company (that wants to USE it for a website) or (again) a domainer (that only wants to resell it with profit)?

“How many type-ins will that domain get? I’d guess less than 100 per month”
One you graduate past the question of how much type in traffic a domain gets and correlate that with value then you may just get this industry. Traffic is sooo 1990 – many other elements exist
65k is not a lot of money.

I’m holding on to mine, NewYorkCityApartments.com
Quotes.com is a great deal. This along with insurance.com has really made the market for insurance names a very valuable.
I think you will see a frenzy of sales for insurance names during the next 3 months.
Don
cashIT.com is interesting or will it be used to promote stuff in California i.e. CAshit.com
LOL @ Greg.
@tom – LuxuryApartments.com is perfect for 7-figure real estate particularly in New York City, Miami, LA. Pretty powerful keyword combo and lots of advertisers in almost every major American city for that exact phrase.
I encourage everyone to look at http://www.Quotes.com
It is total garbage!!
They blend inspirational “quotes” with insurance quotes. The site looks worse than a 3rd world website.
This is what they should have executed…

@Peter — Slow down…that’s the parking page from the previous owner.
I don’t think it will look like that for long.
well… I hope to sell a domain at this price… someday…
It turned out to be a good day indeed and a good auction over all. The good news is that we are still working on some after auction sales and this will only add to the success we had today. Just wait until you see the auction list for the Epik auciton, the German Domain Auction we are doing and the DF Moniker Prague Auction.
We will have some more big wins between now and the end of the year which will help the industry in every way.
Thank you for continued support!!
@Bobby — No kidding Sherlock!
That is my point, the previous owners fumbled their opportunity to monetize their prime property.
I can’t believe someone got quotes for $1.15M. What a steal. It should sell for AT LEAST double that. Wish I had the money. I would have bought that one for sure. Congrats to the buyer!
luxuryapartments.com is pretty good… not sure if I would pay $65k for it since i hate typing long names but there’s def lots of ways to make $$ with that one… overall value-wise quotes.com was the steal of the auction…
I guess that makes my CheapQuote(s).com worth something
Nice work Monte
You think so Brian? Tell me, when was the last time you ever paid anything for a quote of any kind?
……..right. Cheap is a descriptor that adds no value in this context. Probably worth as much as SmellyQuote(s).com …..
Not trying rain on your parade but the logic doesn’t connect.
per Bryan,
Suppose I could get an infalted quote, expenssive quote or rediculous quote on some insurance, lansdcaping, air conditioning !!!
I want a domain that has “BestQuote” in it. The following domains are for sale on Sedo (no .com, .net, or .org available for sale). Which one of these is most valuable? Which one would be worth making an offer on? Any help would be appreciated. I’m an insurance agent, in case any of you were wondering.
bestquote.de 1,106 EUR – –
bestquote.info 4 –
bestquote.eu 1,900 EUR – –
bestquote.tv 1,950 $US – –
bestquote.cn – –
bestquote.in – –
bestquote.us 5,000 $US – –
bestquote.biz 2,750 $US
Which one should I make an offer on? Thanks!
@Viper-
I was advised by someone else on this thread that my CheapQuote.com and CheapQuotes.com were not worth anything – that means my advise to you might be worthless as well – but I would go after a .com like MyBestQuote(s).com and YourBestQuote(s).com and try and stay in the .com space – afterall .com is “THE BRAND” for the internet.
Its tough with cheap/best/ect quotes cause people pretty much just search for “quotes”. not too many people search for “best quote” or “cheap quote” ect. This is one of those keywords where the word itself “quotes” is worth a TON of money, probably several million if done properly, but the other ones might not be that valuable. I dont know what to tell you, but I definitely agree with Brian gotta go .com
We own Quotes.net, which we use for famous quotations on our reference network websites. Any ideas on its market value considering it’s the second most popular extension in line? Not mentioning we are well positioned SEO wise for the quotes keyword already…
Thanks,
The guys @ STANDS4
A very versatile name. Hope it gets used in the Stock sector.
Back to the BestQuotes issue:
James touches on something unique only to .com’s – BRAND –
The are 2 types of .com BRANDS
#1) Intuitive typein .com self-promoting BRANDS like CheapApartments.com – the vast majority of apartment searchers do not want just an apartment, luxury apartment or an expensive apartment – they want a cheap apartment because they cannot afford a house – believe me Apartments.com realizes this.
#2) .com Billboard BRANDS – may not have the organic typin traffic prior to BRANDING – but with very little initial exposure and marketing – they can become a household term.
Example BoiseIdaho.com may get 30 tyins a day but once BoiseIdaho.com in built and advertised on Billboards and local publications – it is a slam dunk to become THE resource for all commerce and community info in Boise Idaho.
This will NEVER happen for BestQuotes.co, BestQuotes.net, BestQuotes.us or BestQuotes.{any non.com} unless a marketing budget of at least 100x is applied – where at that time you are better off just sucking it up anf buying the .com – and that is why I own CheapQuotes.com for reason #2 – and paid more for them in the secondary market than any other domain I have ever bought.
Anyone know who actually bought Quotes.com or who the current owner is?
