Most of these domains suck unless you are and enduser with a viable biz idea. These prices are 150 years Rev.

thank god their are still alot of suckers out there. Keyholders.com was listed on Sedo during the auction with a bin of $999. LOL

Some of these domains aren’t worth reg fee eg. visitbolivia gets maybe 1 type-in a week.

Another example of a DOMAINER talking. It is all about revenues and pay per click. Those are fake numbers and in time they will go away, the real value is in business creation and until we see that we are not going to get anywhere.

VisitBolivia.com might get 1 type in a day, hell, it might get 1 type in per century but with a good business plan and that domain a decent business man could be making a few grand a month in 12 months time. That is where the value is and if you don’t see it then that is better for me and worse for you…

Keep buying on revenue and never develop and eventually you will lose it all when things change.

    @tomj

    I would disagree..

These are some rock bottom prices and your math is wrong on revs, even likely as parked pages..Have you seen what some names have sold for over the last 5 years

And if you only consider one worders valuable, then the lack of inventory there shows that those assets are priceless and people won’t sell them so they won’t even come to market..

Lastly, you should see what a typical adwords monthyl budget is for many companies..

There were some strong sales and great names in this auction. Good to see the sell through on the names with reasonable reserves

I actually like the preceding “visit” and ending “vacation” and “vacations” .com geographical names.

Many tourism departments have adopted these names (VisitFlorida.com, VisitMaine, etc.), as a result they inherit a built in trust at a FRACTION of the cost of the pure destination name.

I don’t know much about Bolivia’s tourism, but $3,500 is pretty cheap.

“the real value is in business creation and until we see that we are not going to get anywhere.”

Web 2.o proved one thing. It doesn’t matter what you call your biz unless you mispell it like flickr.

You say type in doesn’t matter than any domain with the word boliva will do. BOLIVIATREKKER.COM is avail for reg fee. Google was a reg fee domain. If you have a great biz idea and don’t want type in, any reg fee domain that is catchy will do.

I think you have a lot of big players in the room and everyone wants to buy at least one. Either that or everyone is drunk.

@tomj – You say “If you have a great biz idea and don’t want type in, any reg fee domain that is catchy will do.”

That’s a false dilemma, there are other reasons to buy keyword domains for development beyond type-in traffic. There are search engine, branding and consumer perception benefits that come with great domains.

There are certainly some businesses I would start with a ‘Web 2.0’ name, but for most I would want the category defining domain if I could possibly get it.

  9. Troy says

“You say type in doesn’t matter than any domain with the word boliva will do.”

I would assume that you are intending some type of “if/than” statement with that, if I say type in does not matter than any domain with the word Bolivia will do… is that what you mean?

If so please explain your logic.

There are many values to a domain out there besides “type in” but unfortunately many “domainers” don’t really understand that.

    There is SEO value
    There is Branding value
    There is Descriptive value
    There is Trust value

VisitBolivia.com has all of these values, just because it does not have type ins means nothing. There really are not many domains that have many type ins at all, that is a myth anyway, and the ones that do have type in traffic without some type of business presence are getting less and less every year and those type ins are paying less and less as well.

If you still look at revenues and type ins then you are a dying breed Tom, soon to be overtaken by this train that is internet adaptability.

Probably some have sold on 150 years revenue though they are typically brand type names that would never get valued that way. It looks to me like fair few names went on 10-20 years revenue, eg loancalculator.com.

Some interesting comments in there and ron Jackson made some remarks on things.

I would like to see a domain sales script that automatically removes the domain listing once a customer completes the checkout process. This would allow those of us who flip a lot of names at lower price points to use this solution without fear that another buyer will purchase a name that has already been sold but is still appearing on the site.

Rashid, strange you put that un-related request in this comment area.

I notice you’re promoting a domain that is owned by someone else. What’s interesting is the domain is registered to a Santa Clara Univ. address. I’ve never experienced that before.

    Stunned by the loancalculator sale

this industry is super tough to crack and revenues are way down across almost every finance vertical, they could have bought 3 or 4 established websites for this price..

Great Deal… Alot of Killer Catagory names at rock bottom prices sold there.
“End Users is where its at”

Pay per click is a good business model…. Building a sound business around an Exact Match Domain is a great business model.

I like the domain name loancalculator.com but not for $215k. I actually have went to loancalculator.com looking for a loan calculator but never found it…so i just went to google and typed in loan calculator…i think most people would rather goto google and type in loan calculator and hit search… than actually type in the domain name loancalculator.com
I have no idea how the new owner is going to recoupe his $215k investment…hopefully not thru parking…anyways good luck!
