NameJet has reached an agreement with the .cm registry to be the exclusive auction provider for the .CM upcoming Landrush. (their site should be updated shortly)
NameJet will manage all the pre-order applications from the participating registrar partners through the registry.
NameJet customers will be able to submit their applications directly through NameJet for FREE (no application fees!).
With other registrars charging up to $300+ for each .cm domain in applications fees for the landrush (fees returned if domain is not obtained) this could save you a ton of dough.
Namejet.com will start taking pre-orders this afternoon and those will be accepted from July 15th through the 31st.
Auctions will then be scheduled for all domains where there was more than 1 pre-order application.
Rick Latona is also holding an online auction for some .cm domains that will NOT be available in the landrush. Those domain will be sold only through the Rick Latona auction which starts next week only July 7th.
We will have more on that auction next week.

So where do you backorder the domains on namejet?
Steve M says
Mike–what are your thoughts on these things? Will you be buying/bidding on any?
Rob Sequin says
The only reason to buy a .cm domain is to capture .com typo traffic.
I doubt there are many domainers who will be developing on .cm so yet another speculative load of crap coming our way.
Show me one developed .cm domain with a real business model besides tricking visitors into thinking they landed on the .com.
What a tangled web we weave.

I wonder what the traffic leak percentage is from .com to .cm ? 6%? 2%?
These will one day fade b/c just like all the www typo domains like wwwcars.com are losing traffic as each year goes by and folks wise up. That is why so many are dropping now.
Eventually folks will look at the domain they just typed in so they don’t waste time going to the wrong address.
There could be some short term money in this though for a few years.
Johnny says
I forgot to add…….you just know domain auto correction will be popular in the future as an plug in or something. Maybe even browsers will do it.
Buying heavily into these domains could be as dangerous.
MHB says
Rob
Absolutely correct, but that isn’t all bad as long as your dealing in non-trademarked terms (unlike Gooogle.CM which is on the front page of NameJet right now).
You could also use it to protect your own brands.
I haven’t decided yet what to do with it.

Johnny
Its anyone’s guess how much traffic these get.
I think the only ones who know are the hitfarm guys and those who bought the .cm domains at TRAFFIC Amsterdam.
D says
Some hint about traffic – data from 2006
google.cm 25261
At that time google.com was over 6M so type-ins about 0.4%
Matt says
D, close.
I did 2 days worth of calculations. Leak is less than 0.1%. In other words, less than 1 / 1000 .com traffic ends up at .cm.
snicksnack says
if a website receive most traffic from ads, backlinks or bookmarks, then .cm traffic will be lower than for domains which get most traffic from type ins.

I disagree. wwwdomain.coms don’t work anymore because nobody types www anymore. They just type domain.com. But people will always accidentally do a typo. It’s not as if they’re doing it on purpose 😉

Alex
I agree with you.
Very few people type the www in anymore, many more will incorrectly type the .com, the question is can you make enough in just parking to cover $175 a year registration fee, assuming you can get the domain without going into an auction.
